Can't help myself from posting this. IMO, one of the best movies I've ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end, and mostly wondering how in the heck they filmed it?

Anyone else who has seen it? Your thoughts?

My understanding is...most of it was created inside of a computer and not filmed at all.

But...I haven't seen it.

Did you watch it in 3-D?

The reviewer I saw recommended it be seen that way and I think I can see why just from the pieces I've seen. I think it is also available in IMAX which...should also be a "trip."

I haven't bothered to go out and see a film in a theater since another heavily computer generated film... "Avatar." This new Sandra Bullock and George Clooney flick just might do it again.

Must be good. It broke the all time record.

Clutter, most of it is NOT CGI according to this, and it's so believable and seamless that the entire time you're thinking "How did they do this??"

I hate 3D movies, generally, but that was our only option for this one, and watching it in 3D didn't bother me, obviously.

Here's a link to 'how they did it':

I saw it at my local IMax in 3D. Stunning! The story moved along at a fast clip too because it kept you enthralled.

There's good science incorporated into the film also. Not all is true science but a lot of it is.

I give it a big thumbs up.

I saw it and loved it, too. Ended up at a 3D showing by accident (not Imax, though) and at first wasn't too happy as I usually hate the 3D effect. But it's used very subtly in this movie and really adds a sense of place (or, rather, a lack of place. Smile

This film will do for astronauts what Marathon Man did for dentistry. ("No, HELL no, I'm not going to be an astronaut! I'm sticking with something safe like base jumping!)

OK, advice here, please. Going to see Gravity Wed night. The last and pretty much only 3-D movie she saw was Avatar, and it gave her a tremendous headache. So much so, she had to close her eyes and missed a good portion of the movie. I wasn't a real fan of the technology because if you weren't focused on what the camera was focused on, meaning the character or focal point that was carrying the scene, everything else was OUT of focus. BUT, if anything looks like it should be seen in 3-D, it looks like this would be it.

We're not going to an IMAX, but a theater called Cinetopia. 'Living Room' theater. No one under 21, drinks and food is part of the gig.

If my wife got a headache during Avatar 3-D, should I expect anything different with Gravity?

Rick, I didn't see Avatar in 3D, but I've seen other movies in 3D that I hated. To me, the 3D fx in "Gravity" are very, very minimal. I would frankly be surprised if it bothered her.

If you do go see it, report back here as to what you and she think of it.

Love the Cinetopia Theaters. They are so comfy. 3D today is much more refined since Avatar came out. It has greater subtlety. The technology continues to advance. You won't know unless you go check it out. I think you'll like it. Hopefully your wife won't get a headache. I started watching the 3D stuff when it came out and this movie is definitely better quality 3D production and easier to watch without distraction.

So my wife and I went to see Gravity at Cinetopia this evening. I told her that my colleagues (you guys) said 3D technology had come a long way since Avatar, and in Gravity it was used sparingly. She said, 'I'll have a couple Mimosas and I'm sure it won't bother me at all.'

So I use our Groupon to get us two tickets to 3D Gravity and am told that in THAT theater, there's no alcoholic libations cause KIDS could be in there! Well never having been to a Cinetopia before, and knowing you could sip drinks, eat and watch the movie with NO kids in the other theater, AND have your feet up, I opted for 2D and booze in the OTHER theater.

The movie was good, Sandra Bullock did an excellent job, especially considering it was almost entirely a solo performance. The other solo performance we got was from a surely waiter who quickly pointed out that he was a BARTENDER and not a WAITER, and he wasn't real pleased about being a WAITER. He didn't lighten up, even after I said, 'hey, we've got time, no pressure here'. His reply was, 'That's not the point. I have to bring people their food in the dark'. I told him I hadn't thought about that, and on the way out spoke to the manager to see if she could help him with his problem. She said she would and gave me two tickets to come back another time with an apology for having to endure his performance.

Good movie. And waiter aside, a good night!

Going back to see it for a second time today; this time so MY wife can see it; she wasn't able to make it Sunday when my son and I went. It'll be interesting to compare the 2D vs 3D, but again, I'm not much of a fan of 3D anyway.

Glad you enjoyed it, Rick. Sorry you had to deal with the 'attitude'. If the guy had been on Undercover Boss he'd likely be out of a job by now.

We saw it at the IMAX over the weekend -- absolutely thrilling!

And though I haven't read all the "how they did that" articles, I could tell at a few points that they used some underwater shots to get the fluidity of moving through space... really amazing!

Joy and I were blown away by Gravity at IMAX 3D. It was more like a Disney ride than a movie. If you have an IMAX nearby, highly recommend.

I can't handle 3D because of my glasses and the headaches, so we opted for 2D. Still a thrilling and enthralling movie! Some of the science IS a bit "stretched", but I didn't find it bothersome.
