Thanks Connie for the heads up. Looks, or should I say, "Sounds Great"!
All the best,

Thanks for posting this. The fact that you can read to video with it should make it the industry standard.
I like Todd's detailed look at this and agree with all of his points.
I need to get some kind of Soundstreak badge for my website. I think I'm going to write to them to make a badge for VOAs to use to spread the good word. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Yep. So we need to get places like SunSpots and ProComm and VTW and Dog and Pony and all of our usual ISDN studios to try it out. Source-Connect makes me nuts, because I hardly ever use it and there is that HUGE delay. _________________ Playing for a living...

Is it just me or their pricing system clumsy? You buy "tokens" which are good for 90 minute sessions? What studio is gonna want to micromanage tokens? Just give them a flat monthly fee for unlimited usage. _________________ Jeff

I agree Jeff, but if talents embrace it, then that's an incentive for studios to go for it. Talents need to take the lead in the move from ISDN, because the studios aren't going to do it without a nudge (understandably). _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Looking ahead to the extremely near future. Google hangouts "on-air" is making the move to "studio" and the best quality codec available today. It will be available for our use within the next 30 days and is by far a better way to go than any other choice at present.
'nuff said.

I did a test session with a production studio and really liked the ease of use. Of course, I didn't hear the end result, but the producer raved on and on about Soundstreak and they are doing their best to help promote it (supposedly, they are not affliliated with Soundstreak, but they were on the bandwagon for sure). _________________ Back into the murky lurk from whence I came

The google hangouts quality has me interested for sure. I switched to Skype for phone patch a while back because of the call quality of google voice, however, the integration of GV with hangouts should mean much higher quality (and for free...for now at least). |

I dunno, Frank - I hope you're right, but I have got to say that one area I really find Google lacking is in their usability. I've been doing a weekly hangout with 4-5 other VOs for several months now, so we all have lots of practice with the system, yet still to this day we always have some sort of issue on the call with people finding the right way to join and/or the software's behavior with input sources being problematic. I have similar interface complaints with some of Google's other offerings as well. So. I'm skeptical that they can step up as far as they need to in the usability department.
That said, I haven't tested Soundstreak or Luci Live yet so they may or may not be any better.
Have you seen and do you have opinions about the usability of the Google stuff, Frank? Perhaps they enhance the design of a pro level of the product to improve upon such things, but.... well, I'm doubting it. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

I just took a look at Google On Air and it seems that all the broadcasts are public. I didn't see a way to do it between just two people. Don't imagine clients want their sessions going out to the world. _________________ Jeff

"On air" is a public oriented offering. On the other hand "Studio" is designed as a person to person (with invited guests) offering.
As for a more 'pro' look and feel, the test product is iffy but growing and changing daily as real studio pro's are doing the tweaking. The top issue is and has been my personal peeve and I am assured it is being worked on as I write.
