Hi Lauren,

Not to be piling on but Bish had a brilliant and well thought our answer to your query. Rick and Jeffrey read your response just as I did. You just wanted validation. This is a dangerous place to go if your attitude is "just praise me".
Ask the many people who have asked for their Demo's to be evaluated here.
I believe you got honest response though rather than any desire to lash out at another P2P.

Having said that...I do see several things I like about your business model and wish you well.

I've seen where they might get 98 demos. Mine would be number 14....and WAS NEVER EVEN LISTENED TO.

Wow. Is this really that big of an issue?
In about 12 years of doing this, fulltime, I've been stiffed by a client a grand total of 2 times. And I've NEVER had to deal with a 'fraudulent charge'. This just seems so odd to me.


Adds up to thousands of dollars.

Also I've read forums posts and blogs about voice talent spending countless hours chasing up unpaid invoices from clients. Neither are an issue for talent via our site.

Hi Leslie

I'm looking for comments and feedback, but I guess at the same time it makes sense to explain reasons why certain things are done at casting sites. Obviously I can't speak for other sites, but I can give an insight into things from our side.

Definitely not looking for praise. Looking for honest feedback on what talent would like to see on casting websites.

Lauren...

There have been so many discussions in the VO-BB about pay to play sites, the archives are full of opinions, likes, and dislikes. I feel that even though some sites are clearly in the "negative" column, the comfort level of the talent to go with that site is the biggest deciding factor. Some of the differences I have seen in pay to play sites is like putting lipstick on a pig. The only difference is the shade of lipstick.

OK... I've been avoiding coming back to this thread... but I do want to comment of the whole fraud thing. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never been stiffed by a client. I've had to send reminders, sure, but never had to write-off a bad debt in over five years. When someone (specifically Voices) tells me that their 10% SurePay is now non-optional and is really there "for my protection", I call total BS. I would say that any over-protective scheme drives away more revenue than it protects. If you've lost thousands to these "bad" practices, then I think you would have made tens of thousands more by not having the policies in place to start with. Locking people into a compulsory payment scheme, hobbled communications path or anonymity just screams that the relationship is being built on a foundation of paranoia and mistrust. The vast majority of people will opt to use a system of convenience... but when you tell them they have to because you (essentially) don't trust them... the answer is always going to veer towards the "well, screw-you too". Originally, my main point was about respecting the talent... assuming I'm going to try and rip you off is not a good way to start a relationship.

I guess I can only assume then that you don't shop in stores with anti-theft tags on the clothes or security cameras?

There is a world of difference when you compare B2B and B2C. The point is that we're all professionals. I think it is dreadfully unfortunate that you consider talent on a par with shoplifters. Maybe you need to reconsider your business values.

i've been doing this whole "talking out loud for money" thing for over 20 years --- i can count the times i've been stiffed on one hand and still have fingers to spare. i don't need someone to protect me from me. i'm a professional who deals with professionals. now if you'll excuse me, a very dear friend from nigeria, whom i have just met, needs my assistance transferring some money into the U.S.

"I try to audition for quality jobs, I work with experienced people, and their respect for me as always been exemplary, from doing the work to receiving payment. So to be my 'guardian', where I'm a big enough boy to get the work, do the work, but not a big enough boy to handle the payment for the work, is fairly insulting."
