Over in the broadcast world, a lot of folks responsible for programming automation machines have been very picky about sound cards. I suspect they paid high dollars for sound cards not because the audio come out better, but because they were reliable, and they had features that allowed cross fades, etc. AND the big claim was that these sound cards did not pick up electronic noises that haunt the insides of computer cases.

I began wondering if any of these companies made an audio device that V-O folks would flock to. I found two devices on the Internet. Has anyone had the chance to use or to try out:

RME Baby Face

Digigram UAX220

Hello!

Bill Roberts posted a number of times his thoughts and information regarding the Babyface. One of them you will find here. If you do a search with his name you will find more information about it.

I almost got one but was not thrilled about the breakout cable. Got the Audient iD22 instead and am very satisfied with it, but it works only with a mac for now.

All the best,

Mac

I used a PCMCIA Digigram card on a Thinkpad with a Pentium 90 CPU, it worked flawlessly until I blew out the outputs by sending p48 from a mixer. Even then I continued to use it for several years to record without issue. I paid $400 for it used, it was the only option I could find at that time for such a low powered PC.

Been about a year, and the RME BabyFace is the Bomb! It also will work C/C with the iPad, as well as a stand alone mic-Pre.
