For some reason, every DAW I try is having metering issues. It's easy to work around, but for some reason every DAW peaks (and overdrivers) at -6db now while recording.

Check the settings of your hardware (input device) and make sure the assignment of channels matches what you are asking the DAW to do.
In Windows and Adobe Audition, having hardware set up for stereo while recording mono, or the other way around, can cause clipping at -6.
Your problem may be different, but this is one thing to check. |

Dug into some funky settings that I haven't every messed with before and found the problem. Preferences -> Audio Hardware -> Settings and the input and output channel masters had defaulted to some really funky numbers. Changed the "Value" to 1 and "DB" to 0 and it straightened it all out. |
