When I convert (save) wav files to mp3 in Twisted wave I get the following message:

Quote:
Metadata not supported

The file format you have selected does not fully support all the metadata you have selected:
- The BWAV metadata won't be saved.

What does that mean? Will something esplode?!

Many thanks,

B

Hi Bruce,

I get a similar message when I've left markers in an extract which I save to mp3, and that's pretty harmless as they don't affect the sound at all.

I'd imagine the fact that it's 'metadata' rather than 'data' implies that, like the markers, it's something other than audio that isn't being saved.

Just listen back to the mp3 and, if it sounds okay, you can probably stop worrying about it.

Many recording programs use their own unique data for various functions. However, this data (markers etc.) will be in a format unusable in the mp3 format (hence the warning), and usually unique to that particular program.

For example... markers recoded in a SoundStudio4 wav/aiff files are not usable by Audition, and naturally, the other way round is useless as well. Markers from either are not encoded in the mp3 format.

As far as I can see BWAV data is a collection of metadata used by the broadcast industry and includes coding history, extension chunks for over-sized files and other such wonderful stuff. These are usually called BWF (broadcast wave file).

Just a warning... nothing gonna Explode

Simon is correct.

"In addition to music metadata, the edit panel can show up to two additional tabs for editing BWAV and Soundminer metadata. These metadata are not specific to music, and can be used to store more general information, such as a description of the sound, what kind of microphone was used for the recording, where the sound was recorded…

Note that BWAV metadata can only be saved in .wav files, and this tab will only be present when editing a file in this format. Soundminer metadata can be present in .wav and .aiff files. "

Section 12.1 in the Twisted Wave manual
http://twistedwave.com/doc/index.html

It simply means that some of the non-music info that you have associated with the WAV or AIFF file you are working on will not be saved in the MP3. This will not affect your audio.
