Thank you, everyone.
I recorded only what I had to today and am spending the rest of the day simply editing. And even THAT is hard to focus on. But all the well-wishes help a TON. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

There's an old show biz saying: "the show must go on."
At times, that's hard to impossible to accomplish. And, I personally don't agree with it. There will always be another gig. If you lose a job because life gets in the way, weigh out your priorities. 30 years ago I left my grandmother's funeral for a callback. When I got home I found our that the job has been cast. I decided never again to allow a job to get I the way of life. Life is too short. Your career is not more important!!!

24 hour update:
First of all, the outpouring of sentiments and thoughts from friends here and on Facebook have helped tremendously.
I wanted to give you all a dual update.
Over the last 24 hours I've been able to reflect a lot on my friend, Mike. I realize, of course, as we all do, that life is not guaranteed. None of us know how many days are allotted to us.
But I thought about the hundreds, or thousands, of people who pass through our lives, during our lifetimes. Most are gone and forgotten, having made little or no impact. But if we're lucky - really lucky - we have one, maybe two, who make our lives better by the mere fact they were a part of our life. Mike was that kind of person. He was always positive. He took good care of himself and loved his family. He enjoyed life, worked hard, and played hard. He stayed in touch with his friends and called me a couple times a year to check in on me. He always remembered my birthday and called to wish me a happy one. Having someone like this in your life is a rare blessing and I'm a better person because of that. I thank God that I got to know Mike and have him as a friend. He - and his humor and smile and warmth - will always be a part of my life.
Part 2: It's mildly ironic that on the very day I learned of his passing, we got word that my wife was finally cleared as a kidney donor and on Dec. 5 will be donating a kidney to the 16 year old daughter of some other close friends. Especially ironic is that the girl's father is named Michael.
So we say goodbye to one life, and have the opportunity to help extend another.
God is good. And so are all of you. Thank you again, so much. Believe me, you HAVE helped. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Scott, the greatest thing anyone can do for someone else is sacrifice. Giving is great, but when that gift costs a loss that someone is willing to take for you, that is a true sacrifice and a true friend. Many say they will do deeds as such, but when the rubber meets the road, most of the time they do too. Bless your wife, and you, for helping this young girl.
I have recently begun getting involved in the lives of children who have grave illnesses. Pictured are three of them. They all reside at St. Jude.
In my mind, there's no way little Ian, Emma Grace and Aaron, should have the sickness they do, but the fact is they do and my heart breaks for them. At this point, about the only thing I can do is pray for them and watch God work in their, and my life. I've also put in an application to volunteer at our local Children's hospital here in Portland. Again, I don't know what I can do, but I know their parents are devastated and their families can use all the support they can get.
Young lives, IMO, should be happy and carefree. I'm sad that many are not, and I share the emotional burden of those that are going through what these little ones, and so many others are as well. I just wanted to say, bless you, both your wife and yourself, for going so far, to make such a sacrifice to help such a young life.
If you want to share publicly on this forum the progress of the young lady, your wife and yourself, please post that. Otherwise, you have my email. I expect updates. Your wife, you and this young girl have been added to my prayer list. Please share that with them. Let them know they have support from other places besides home. And I have the feeling you're the kind of guy that will add these kids to your list as well.
I'm sorry for you loss, but so grateful for your gift. Prayers for a positive outcome and speedy recovery for all!
Your friend,

So sorry for your loss, Scott. My condolences.
And, Rick, St. Jude's is a great organization to be involved with. What are you doing with these three kids? _________________ Bob Ransom

Scott... Bravo! on the Part 2.
Donating a kidney is like giving someone a 2nd chance at a normal life. _________________ "Bailey"
