Thank you. I'll definitely go through this tomorrow. I'm very happy with the functionality and appearance of my new self-hosted wordpress site, but I need to snag the appropriate widgets to help my SEO. I took on the recommended Yoast plugin, but that unleashed a cascade of spam comments (thanks for nothing!). Also, I was looking today into how to get snippets and markups into my new site. I knew how to do it when I published my own code directly, but now it's a much more squirrely endeavor. I know what I need to write, but now I need to figure out where to edit that in my server.

I chose to go with wordpress because I wanted my blog to be a part of my website. I suppose that if I get off my rear and write all the posts I have bouncing around in my noggin then I will have generated a substantial amount of original content...and that's more important these days than traditional SEO techniques anyway, yes?

Old SEO: lead horses to water.

New SEO: make lots of better water.

I didn't care for the Yoast plugin for SEO, (I mean, what does it do???) but I just got the SEO Ultimate plugin and I like it. An hour later I was able to markup my site and be verified by Google & Bing. You have to have a self-hosted site, upload it to your server and then activate it in your WP dashboard. Voila! My morning call in session got cancelled, so it's Website-o-Rama this morning.

Lance, thanks for the recommendation for the SEO Ultimate plugin. I just downloaded it and, hey, it (more or less) makes sense! I'd been using the Yoast thing but spent more time scratching my head than actually getting any use out of it.
