F copy where the print is so small that you have to mount it on your nose to read it. At least if it's a word doc, I can change the font to something larger. Usually, I can copy the F to a word doc, but then you have to reformat it. This morning I ran into F copy that won't even let you copy it!!!
And one more thing... what's the deal with email these days. It seems like everyone's playing 'mine is smaller than yours'. You either need a Jeweler's Eye or a telescope to read it.
This has been bugging me for a long time. Now that I've said it... I can move on.
Thank you. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

My pleasure, Rick.
I jest, but, in recent months, I've noticed a steady decline in my eyesight. When it began to worry me, a quick visit to my eye doc revealed that I had developed cataracts rather rapidly. A visit to a specialist confirmed it. I'm scheduled for surgery right after New Years.
Just sayin'....
We often worry about our voice in this biz. Don't forget your eyes. _________________ Don Brookshire

As an "owner" of Adobe Audition, when they converted to the 'subscription' scheme of pricing, they made an offer that I could not refuse. For the first year, you can subscribe for half-price or less. And for not much more than the monthly fee for Audition, I could have every last software thing they offer in their new Cloud concept. (Exploring that software is like a semester in college!!) So I received two things about the same week: A script for a book narration, in F, LOCKED!!!!, and line justified both right and left, with a lot of hyphenated words at the end of those lines.
Acrobat PROFESSIONAL to the rescue. I was able to extract all the text from the "locked file". But cleaning up the line breaks and hyphenations has been a nightmare. What I received was the version sent to the printer complete with circles and cross-hairs for press registration alignment.
Lesson learned. On future book assignments... maybe a bit of conversation about the format of the copy? What do the rest of you do? Do you push-back for a more workable copy version, or do you just grit-your-teeth and make the best of a raw deal? |

I was going to mention the same thing Eddie did. On PDFs, you should be able to just zoom in to make the copy larger -- assuming it will still fit on your screen, and assuming you read your copy off the screen. Not sure what you can do if you print your scripts.
What I hate is, working off storyboards. It's nice to have a look at a storyboard to get the gist of what the piece is about, but then give me a good old-fashioned script.
And another
thing I hate
is when they
post the script
in little
mini-lines like
it's some sort
of poem.
AND IT'S EVEN
WORSE
WHEN THEY
DO IT
IN ALL CAPS. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Zoom feature doesn't work with print, and I use print. I like to use as much paper as I can. I live in Oregon. We grow trees for paper. If we don't use paper, we starve up here. Please, if you use a monitor and not paper, destroy your monitor now. You must use paper. Lots of it. In fact, I wrote this on paper before I posted it to the board. Once it's on the board, I will print what I wrote on paper, to see if it's what I originally wrote on paper. Remember... we need to use paper.

Scripts sent in PowerPoint format are a ton of fun to read from, too.

Get a large format printer that prints on 11x14 paper, then you use even MORE paper! I can see how it's an issue, though, whereas a Doc can be scaled easily before printing. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

And such a tiny price for it, too, Jen! You KNOW the quality has to be great. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

I appreciate all the shots to my age and failing eyesight, but the problem is miniscule print on a F that can't be changed. And even smaller, sub-zero font being the trend for emails.
And as for Jen's solution... it takes two hands to use it. How would I do that and at the same time, hold on to my walker??? _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Download the .pdf file...then go to this site http://www.pdfescape.com/ . There you can edit, enlarge, etc. Great for forms, too. Best of all, it's free. |
