A booth kind of works in my new soon to be recording space, as opposed to building out.. any thoughts on this deal?
http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/msg/4185018900.html
couple of issues.. 1) 3.5 x 2.5 seems awfully small.. 2) this sucker may just clear my low ceiling space, even without casters...
that DrumPerfect booth is 4.x 4 and fits into my budget of less than $2K, of course I can't get any referrals from folks that have used them for VO so it's a shot in the dark as to whether they work. _________________ Lee Kanne

Offer him $1500, a fair price, but SMALL, the smallest they make. And it will get even smaller when you acoustically treat it properly.
DrumPerfect booths work very well, I've had someone else (Mike Bratton, who now owns a Studiobricks and misses the acoustics of the DrumPerfect) told me so. Not nearly as much isolation and no ventilation, that's the tradeoff, but better acoustics and much cheaper.
An NRC of .90 all the way around is excellent: http://www.drumperfect.com/vocal_booth.htm _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I'm getting claustrophobia just reading about this thing.

That's exactly what I'm using. I wouldn't recommend it for a male voice with an LDC mic. With a shotgun and some treatment though, it's working great here. George helped me tune the chain for it when I was using a Rode NTG-3 in there. Since I switched to the Senny, no eq other than an 80hz hi pass filter is needed. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

makes sense that the Senny would work. Im a Shure Sm7 and LDC guy
by treatment you mean 4" 703 on each wall / ceiling and corner traps?
Also can u fit an LCD monitor in that thing?
thanks Chuck!! _________________ Lee Kanne

I used 2" 703 panels from ADS on three walls and bass traps on the left and right corners looking in through the door. I do have a 13" flat screen on the wall in front of me. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

I'm going to have to dismantle my booth in a few weeks or a month or so I think...not sure if I can even get it apart without destroying it, but if so (!!!!) I'd hate to trash it but can't think of anything else to do with it! It was built off of the DAWbox double-walled design but actually corrected since his measurements were off and my dad is a master carpenter. 4x6 and 7' high, room for chair, small desk, flatscreen monitor mounted inside, Auralex all around, window, plenum w/ 2 PC fans for a bit of air motion (yes it can get hot in the summertime if in a hot room), LED lightbars inside. There's heavy vinyl and 2" of pinkboard on the inside between the walls, all sealed up w caulk, etc - and it's HEAVY MAAAAAAAN...now I have no idea if I can even get this apart without using a SawsAll, as the screws are all hidden under the carpet on the outside, but I'm gonna have to take it apart one way or another as we're gonna be moving relatively soon and probably listing our house right after Christmas. There's a SlideShare slideshow of the booth build on my LinkedIn page. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear em. Thanks in case!! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

The dimensions of that Whisperroom are making my 3'3" x 3'3" booth seem cavernous. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

chris - just an idea --- but if you cut the carpet with a utility knife (so the saw doesn't rip it) then cut down the joints with the saw you (or someone else) should be able to reassemble the booth like a house of cards --- minus cutting through wiring --- with (maybe) angle braces, scabbed-in 1x4s, etc. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

It must be said that Chuck is a wiry little fellow... I bet he still wears the same size jeans as he did back in the 80s
Seriously... there has to be a point where shoulder-room becomes a psychological problem (forget the acoustics for the moment)... and if you're someone who moves about at all you may have to restrict yourself... which is a distraction from the performance. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Oh crap Bish. You made my day with that one!
Honestly, it's not overly tight in there. I'm very used to it. If I'm not mistaken, Maxine Dunn has the same booth as well. Nice to have a nearby wall to lean against while producer, writer and client go back and forth. I always stand too….and wave my arms around like a moron. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.
