Ever wonder about how unfair it is that our favourite P2P site (err, 2nd favourite? 3rd favourite? There's a steep drop-off somewhere in there, isn't there!) manages to hit us with a subscription fee and a mandatory escrow percentage, but the part of the transaction that is traditionally considered the client-side remains more or less untouched?

Wonder no more! Introducing the new "promoted jobs" flag. For a (modest and reasonable, shirley) fee, the discerning client who spends sleepless nights worrying about getting EVEN MORE auditions flooding their inbox can have their job flagged as a "promoted job". God help them, they're actually asking for and even paying for it.

cheers,

For the life of me, I can't begin to understand what the point of this is, other than for the company to extract some extra cash from job posters who don't know any better.

Indeed! The motivation for the site to introduce this is obvious enough, but I'm baffled as to why anyone would actually sign up for it. I don't know whether to laugh or be horrified, but to think that any client drinking from the unfiltered fire hydrant of auditions would pay extra and shout "TURN IT UP!!!" just boggles the mind.

The motivation is easily identified (as it has been here)... money... plain and simple. But let's not be too scathing... that is what they're in business for. We may not like a lot of what they do, or the arguably dubious ways they go about it, but I think this may be one case where it's up-selling a service that has little direct impact on us (that is, of course, unless you consider the broader picture of the customer's budget). We are used to this... every time you do a Google search the promoted listings are at the top. We opt for a lot of services that can be "expedited" for an additional cost.

Personally, I think they had a column (the flag column) on the web-site and wanted to make money out of it... otherwise it's wasted screen space. On the answered jobs page it shows "listened" or that horrible "thumbs-up"... on the open jobs page it was a screaming black-hole that begged to be filled by dollar-signs.

I have no idea why I'm feeling so benevolent this morning... but consider this, it could be a long-term plan to build a revenue stream so they can back away from compulsory SurePay and satisfy the demands of their membership. OK... maybe I'm delusional on that one. Wink

Bish, I agree with everything you said. I fully comprehend why they would offer this "service." What I can't understand is, why anyone would buy it.

Let me be Frank with you and I am. In todays's economy it's anything for a buck. And if you cannot get the $$$ from one of your paying sides - get it from the other.

And they're multiplying! Some only offering the talent $100 but paying to put that offer at the top of the list. Because my criteria for responding is whether the job is at the top of the list.

I responded to several in the $500-750 or $750-1000 range. It was the budgets that attracted me, not the light green stripes.
