I've decided to consolidate my blog and my website at http://lanceblairvo.com. Your critique is welcome!

Edit: Todd is right, I deleted a file that fouled up everything, but now it's back and working. I need to add some more content, but it's on it's way.

Thanks Todd. Yep, I killed the site accidentally right after I posted this thread. Two hours of frenzy and I built it back up as it was before, but with a little less content (which will be forthcoming).

Lance... I know about as much about site building as the guy holding a sign on the corner. That being said, is there anyway to just set up the Archives by years... with sub-directories by months... so there isn't such a long scroll down the screen?

I know even less than Bailey, but I did notice that the "contact me" link in the text of your front page is messed up and gives a 404 page not found error.

I think that you need the link to be something along the lines of "mailto:lance@lanceblairvo.com" instead of "http://lanceblairvo.com/lance@lanceblairvo.com", but they wouldn't even let me hold the sign on the corner, so I could well have gotten the syntax wrong.

cheers,

Thanks, Bailey and Foog! I'll fix those issues this morning.

Edit: Problems solved, thank you! I didn't have mailto: on my links (d'oh) and the Blog Archive is now a compact drop-down menu.

It's so easy to host your own Wordpress site if you already have a blog there!

1.) Have a hosted website and domain.
2.) On the Control Panel at your host, download and install the Wordpress plugin.
3.) Export your current wordpress blog files to your computer.
4.) Import them to your Control Panel from your computer (I think it goes into the wp-content folder)
5.) Then you get an admin profile from Wordpress, which you then use to select templates and edit your website online. Download an HTML5 mp3 player from their plugin page, and set it up on your chosen static landing page.

It's so nice to have a good looking site that you can edit online. It makes it so much easier to add content!

The only thing that really caught my attention as something I would change might be the header.

1. My guess is that there is room to expand the "lance blair" header across more of the top of the site. I would do that just because I think its a nice graphic

2. I'd adjust the coloring of the working. I get the red, white and blue theme as America's voice talent but I think the blue lettering gets lost on the blueish background. I would go with white lettering on your name (possibly make it a little bigger) and increase the white shadowing on the red "america's voice over talent".

3. On the voice over resources links, did you want to include the VO-BB?

Otherwise it looks nice and gets the job done - pretty much all you could want in a web site.

Thank you Peter! I tried a larger graphic for the name and it looked a bit awkward, cutting into the skyline. I agree with you about the header blending in with the background. I think the way to fix it would be to reduce the saturation/chroma of the blue in the picture and not change the colors in the header. That will be my first tweak for the site in 2014 (if I don't get round to it tonight)!

Edit:
Ok: I desaturated the banner photo and made a horizontal tilt shift to focus on the side with the logo. This is probably a good move, as it blurs out the names of the banks on the skyscrapers on the right half of the banner (especially since they're not my clients)!

Gah...I had to ditch that theme, a lot of the headers were too big. You had to scroll down to see the demos, and the players wouldn't load correctly. Also, the video players wouldn't line up right. Changed the theme and it's all good...but I need to re-upload all my plugins.

Tomorrow I customize it all (fonts, colors, snazzy banner).

It's still lanceblairvo.com, though!
