|
|
Hey guys,
So I have Vegas 5 on my old PC which works fine.
But I have my new PC where I do most of my work now & I need to install an easy solution to be able to sync 2 audio tracks
I seem to be asked more often these days to sync my French audio with another vo's English audio for time
OR
My English audio with another VO's French audio for time.
....and it's getting tiresome to go back & forth between 2 PC's
(Yeah, I know first world problems!)
I use SoundForge, and I like that when I change something in my SoundForge file it automatically updates in the Vegas window when I save the SoundForge file
SO:
- Should I just get ACID ...which I understand is the audio version of Vegas
...What's the ACID learning curve since I already know the basic Vegas functions...and maybe I should stay with Vegas since I can import the video in as well if it get's sent to me...although I haven't figured that out yet
- or should I get Vegas Edit
BUT what exactly is the difference between Vegas Edit and Vegas Pro
OK....GO! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Acid is really NOT the audio version of Vegas.
It's an entirely different program designed for creating and using loops and samples, making beats, music generation, etc. Very music oriented. Great for building a song. Voice Over? Not so much.
Vegas Pro and Vegas Pro Edit are basically the same...except Edit does not have the ability to master DVDs. (Doesn't include DVD Architect - therefore cheaper)
Vegas began its life as an Audio program ONLY and still can be used this way if you desire. But since Vegas and SF play nice together I don't see why you would be using two computers in the first place. Why wouldn't you have both programs on the same computer?
Both of the latest versions of Vegas Pro and Sound Forge includes the "élastique" pitch shift algorithm from zPlane that makes high quality time compression/expansion possible. Were it me, I would produce my audio in Sound Forge Pro 10 then bring both the original (other language) audio and your production into different audio tracks in Vegas Pro 12 and then visually match up the new audio to the old using cut edits and the very simply expansion/compression tools of Vegas by holding down the CTRL key while dragging the end of the edit to match. Or course, there are limits to how much it can compress/expand before you begin to hear artifacts, but used within reason, I would think it would be very effective.
I have used Vegas Pro and Sound Forge for a very long time. (almost from their very first versions) They are my tools of choice. ALTHOUGH lately I have began to see some of the obvious benefits of the many tools available in Adobe Audition CS6. (particularly the "auto heal selection" tool. Which is almost akin to magic)
I hope you find this info useful.
Good luck.
P.S. Come to think of it, your older version of SF would still probably work fine and you could still take advantage of the "elastique" time compression while doing your voice matching in a new Vegas. Just make sure that your particular version of Vegas has that tool.

I did actually, untill I got my new PC.
I have had SF & Vegas on the same (old) PC for years.
Now that I have the new PC, I downloaded SF10Pro on to it, and wanted to get the newest version of Vegas on it as well....but wanted to check in here to make sure I was getting the correct version.
Thanks for the info on ACID!
I just downloaded the Trial version of Vegas for the sync job I need to do today & will probably go with Vegas Edit.
Thanks!
&Thanks to Todd for the call! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

If you haven't played with it yet, be sure to check out the Event Tool in SF 10... it lets you edit files like you can in Vegas, splicing regions and dragging crossfades... can be very useful when trying to edit out a click or pop. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I do an awful lot of this.. if you are syncing two tracks by chopping and manipulating the audio forward backward, etc...ACID works fine for this.. I would also look at REAPER _________________ Lee Kanne

Thanks for all the input guys!
I was able to get the full Vegas Pro 12 at the upgrade price since I had Vegas5...even though it was on another computer. (...it was registered & I had the serial number)
At the upgrade price of $199.95 it was less than Vegas Edit.
