My DW Emma has been doing the QC on my latest books and a couple of others recently, and she's quite good at it, kind, quick, and thorough. She's charging the standard $25/pfh, but as a "grand opening special" she's offering $20/pfh for your first project together. Shoot me a line and I'll connect you.

Hey Bruce, I just want to verify, you're talking about proofing right? My thinking may be off, but to me QC is checking the files after editing and mastering to verify that it is up to snuff (not listening to the entire file).

Yes, QC of the words, not the audio. In the audiobook narration world QC and proofing seem to be interchangeable.

Good to know the definitions. I proofed one of Ulf's audio books - words, but also any clicks, rustles, background noises etc. Marked the page, paragraph and line and noted audio time stamp for cleanup. So that is proofing/QC? (long book, took a while to finish).

I wish your wife much success, Bruce,,

OK, a further definition of the QC editor's job... Listen to the book and note anything that's wrong with the presentation: divergence from the text, mispronunciations, really odd copy interpretation, unnecessary or unusually loud breaths, editing errors, and extraneous noises from the narrator or the background environment.

It's their job to point these things out, and then it's the job of the narrator and everybody else down the line to act or not act on these notes. The narrator's job, with the assistance of the QC editor, is to present the author's work with respect and a reasonable amount of accuracy.

Especially in fiction, audiobooks are an art form, and therefore the final determination of interpretation is left up to the narrator.
