|
|
read all the warnings and the scree (what you need to know if you are considering this, etc etc) , It is all ive wanted to do my entire life, in spite of being on a very, very different career arc(military/government agency). I saw this as a means to have a steady income so I could put money away(and time!) to devote to developing my voice.
I have a reasonable collection of microphones, dozens of VO texts/books, cds, etc...and a passion for wanting to be a working VO guy that has yet to be equalled by any other pursuit(well maybe singing or writing)
I really need a coach for twice a month or monthly or whatever. Paid of course!
any advice? who to hire for coaching via skype, etc??
glad to be here folks. school me oh keeper of the dulcet tones. |

Ok, I'll bite. I can't resist a Black Flag fan.
You've read the books, know not to quit the day job right away, and there's no such thing as buckets of money out of the gate.
You've heard that it's more than reading, it's bringing a script to life and engaging the listener with the material.
So, a mentor is a great thing. I have one, he got me up on my feet by taking raw material and molding it into a beginning talent.
Couple of questions. Have you or do you act? Have you thought about attending a FaffCamp?
There are great people out there that say that talent can't be taught. But diamonds can be polished. It's not about the voice per say, but having a pleasant tone is an asset. But there's work out there for the annoying whiny nasal voice too.
Where ya located, generally? Not that I'm takin on a mentor role, but if I can help someone get further down the road, I'll try. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

Lord, so much to wade through...so many names, and reviews/feedback.
am I wrong to be leery of the folks that offer a
"professionally recorded demo" as part of the "coaching" package? seems odd to me.
i know, I need to pick someone and go with it....but I really want to make the right choice here.
some names from the veterans here would be just grand. ! _________________ "what time does the beer store close?"

I've decided. I'll coach and mentor you. There. I've done it. If you need a demo then that will come later.
As a general rule in our business, trust no one and the opinions of few.
Nobody saying a nobody is famous makes no one famous ever!
Do you know why I'm a veteran top talent? No? Go find out. ASK NO ONE. If you find out that I'm a top talented veteran, then I am. I'm not by the way and IF you find out I am remember - As a general rule in our business, trust no one and the opinions of few. |

Teddy Ray, where are you? Maybe there's someone close to you who can truly help you and not gouge you.
