I tend to never be satisfied or content with what I got. So every couple years, whether I need to or not, I end up re-designing my website. Here's 2014's version:
www.jeffaugustinevo.com
Still some minor tweaking to tend to. And the demos are old, they will be updated soon. Looking for feedback on appearance and functionality. Much appreciated! _________________ Jeff Augustine

Right off the bat, Jeff, "Character" is misspelled on your demo listings on the left.
Other than that, I like the site for the most part. Clean and functional.
Oh, and you'll probably get the same complaint that people give me about my site. I'm assuming it's a Flash site and may not show up on non-flash mobile units like iPhones and iPads. I haven't checked it yet on my Samsung Galaxy. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

whew...good catch Scott! I get caught up looking at design and what not and forget about a big pet peeve for me...spelling!!! Like I mentioned, I'll have new demos up soon but the site is LIVE now so thanks for catching that.
My web guy tells me this is non flash. I think he uses wordpress. I dunno..I leave that stuff up to him. It worked on my S4 fine but I have not checked on a tablet. Thanks again! _________________ Jeff Augustine

Jeff, your web guy is right. Later, I checked it on my Galaxy tablet and it worked fine. I REALLY need to get my own site fixed for non-flash users, although it simply boggles my mind that some mobile devices CAN'T read Flash yet! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Yup, it's Wordpress...nicely done.
And it looks just as good on my iPad as it does on the big screen. Demos play perfectly too.
BTW, something wacky happens when the testimonial quotes are resized to display at the bottom left...sometimes a space is removed between sentences, so everything runs together.
Grammatical/spelling nit-picks (sorry, can't help it):
- On the home page under Signature Voice, "it's" is missing its apostrophe.
- David Huber's testimonial has an errant hyphen in "turn-around."
- Under Kyle Efrink's testimonial, the comma goes inside the quotation marks.
- "Barbequing" isn't a word. Maybe BBQ'ing? _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Actually Scott, it boggles my mind that people still use and have to support Flash. The non-reading of Flash is, admittedly, a pain sometimes, but unless a stand is taken we'll still be using it in ten years. It's an outmoded, lazy, clunky resource hog that carries a whole bunch of liabilities with it. Even Adobe are trying to walk away because of its bad performance on mobile devices... and when parents try to disown their own child... well, you know it's not a good thing!
Yeah... that's simplistic... but really, it's time for Flash to die... along with fax machines and other remnants of the last century
... and Jeff, I really like your style on the site. The logo and colour palette are really quite nice, as is the player. Having a photo on the front page is always a judgement call, but it seems to work here. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

But "barbecuing" is
I'm starting to change my mind about Wordpress. I always thought it was clunky, easily identifiable, and not really suited to general use... but I hadn't pegged this as a WP site when I looked at it. Maybe I need to play around with one for a while. How's WP security nowadays? I seem to remember that one of the complaints was having to be constantly updating because of vulnerabilities. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Thanks, Peter . . . I knew there was a better solution for that one.
And I've got a coupla' WP sites that I'm really happy with with. With so many templates these days (and so much control over them) it's gotten much easier to hide the WP DNA, so they don't all look alike.
And updates are simple to do, and aren't required nearly often enough so as to become annoying. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

thx Bish & Doug! I really appreciate the feedback. Funny, when I sent content to my web guy, I sent BBQ-ing b/c I wanted it to seem more personal sounding but he changed it...and not only changed it but didn't spell it right..lol. Anyways, good to catch these things now rather than after promoting it to decision makers. _________________ Jeff Augustine

Good and clean. I like it. It definitely fits the industry. I would personally list your Commercial demo first. This is the one everyone really wants to hear, so it should play as soon as you hit the play button without having to look for it (IMO). I ran the site through an optimization tester, and it did pretty well. Using a CDN might speed it up a bit. Cloudflare is free and easy to install on WP. I've read that Cloudflare with W3 Cache is a great combination.
I just rebuilt my site in WP, and I personally love it. I can do all the modifications I need, optimizing and maintaining the site is super simple, and all I had to invest was $45 bucks in a really really customizable theme with a visual composer. I love WP. I was even able to really easily integrate my external blog with my website and import all the content VERY easily.
Good job man! |

Depends who you're marketing to, and what kind of work you're looking for, no? _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

thx Jason!
I'm still in the process of having new demos made so they'll all be moved around eventually. I tend to fall into line with Doug on this..me personally, I feel I'm stronger in the radio imaging niche than the commercial world (still too much radio voice in me)....so that's why they've been listed first...dunno...may change that too.... _________________ Jeff Augustine

Hey...if you are marketing to that niche, it makes sense to have that demo first. I just assumed you were doing VO all-around. My mistake You definitely have a solid imaging voice for sure. |
