|
|
I know we all want an MKH 416! Unfortunately, a flood of fake 416s has inundated the market, and many people are now appropriately shy about buying a 416 other than from an authorized dealer.
One solution is to buy a used T-power version of the mic on eBay, and then purchasing an inexpensive 48v phantom to T-power adapter. 416Ts tend to be far less expensive online, and according to George Whittam and others sound exactly like the phantom-powered version.
The reason I bring all this up is that I had purchased a used 416T, but ended up having to return it to the vendor because of a defect. At the same time, I had purchased a phantom power to T-power adapter and a brand-new Sennheiser 415 foam windscreen.
I eventually bought a new MKH416 P48 from a dealer because I had an immediate need for the mic. This has left me with a new foam windscreen and the T power adapter for which I now have no need. I spent over $100 on these two items, will sell for $40 plus $10 shipping if anyone should want to consider buying a T powered 416.
Any takers? _________________ Graeme Spicer

yea I had a T powered 415 at one point and it sounded pretty much exactly like my phantom powered 416. And for something like $400 (at the time) |

tad bulkier to travel with.. downside of the 415
as far as the knock off issue, there are ways to verify if a 416 is authentic... _________________ Lee Kanne

I travel with a 415t. Slim, light, and discrete. (Yeah, you see what I did there)
The converter slips in a pen pocket. If I needed the muff, I'd be all over Graham's offer.
And, i, personally, think the 415 sounds more classic than the 416.

I'm with you Don…and I'm sure Eddie will chime in too. The 415 is just "a touch" warmer than the 416. I can thank George Whitham for the hook-up there. As a matter of fact, I think he posted that lead here. Coffey Sound had two for 500 a piece. I grabbed one. Sennheiser USA, just 20 minutes from here, checked it out and "re-aligned" it. My absolute go to mic. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.
