Found this on Fast Company. By answering a few questions, you can get a fairly decent estimate of just what your time is worth.... Not to others, but to YOU.

So, the next time you are tempted to underbid that project, send that p2p audition, or read that equity share audiobook.... You'll have a better idea what it's costing you.

Go ahead, give it a try. It might change your perspective on how you spend your time.

I learned a few things about myself. A couple of them actually surprised me.

You might, too.... Inoccent

Good for you. I might have guessed. You seem to have your head on pretty straight about what you're worth to yourself.

One of the things I learned is that I should be outsourcing mundane tasks, in order to free up more personal time. Apparently, I'm a cheap bastard, and outsourcing would cost less than my own time. Who knew? Embarrassed

The other thing I learned is that I'm undervaluing the amount of time I spend traveling as part of some of the jobs I take. Although the travel costs are paid for, the lost time is cutting into both my free time and the time I could be devoting to other projects.... An eye opening revelation, to say the least. Gasp

Made me think about some of the choices I make.

I failed the test. My time is worth about 1/2 of me (according to the test). Guess I better get busy. hahahahahaha

Just cheat, it worked for me!

Seriously, it does help see where you are but one has to introduce balance. It is not cost effective for me to walk the dogs but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Welcome to my world. That's what happens when you don't include a pension and social security.

Holy crap and WTF dude! A vacation longer than a 3-day holiday weekend is nothing but a fond memory of the distant past.

All you 9 to 5ers longing to get into this fly-it-alone business, put the long-term disappearance of worry-free, weeks-long vacations into your calculations. There ain't nobody to fill in for you while you're gone. Sure you can do gigs on your portable rig, but that's not really a vacation vacation, is it?

Now, when you're making the huge bucks you can write your own ticket and clients will wait for you, but until then, you gotta learn to make the most of those occasional days and hours off.

Hoo boy, does THIS hit home. A week ago I FORCED myself to take a Thursday off, due to good weather, and my son and I rode motorcycles up into the North Ga. mountains. What a great day. I made up for it by working through the weekend.
