The voiceover equivalent of these.

Nowadays, USB mics have probably become more ubiquitous than matchbooks.

Worse than the cult of celebrity, in VO work we have the cult of the nobody.

Come to New York and for only $349 YOU...Yes, that's right YOU can be as famous, as successful and as also ...AS THE Philip Banks registered TM

Learn how to double your income from VO in 2 years!
Learn the truth about the Iranian Double Pause registered TM
Learn how prisoners in Guantanamo Bay are made to read VO blogs until they'll confess to anything.

PLUS ...

Bonus material. Learn how to compress your audio to **** so that lack of quality is hidden.

Also ..Qualify for a FREE demo for only $1,275 (admin fee)

Upon meeting a VO person we need to change what we say

"You did THAT?"

Becomes

"Is THAT all you've done?"

Followed by

"I'll tell you what. I'll coach you WHEN you finished clearing my table ....
Philip ...who, by the way?"

Thanks everyone for the no nonsense advice! It really means a lot to me to hear everyone's opinions and stories about why voice over mills are not worth your time.

Hey Lee, funny true thing. When I was a mere boy (centuries ago) I drew something and sent it in to one of those places. I am not kidding when I tell you that a salesman literally showed up at the house and tried to sell my family the training program for me. Uh, no sale. But you can see that the VO mills come from a long tradition of shysters and hucksters, and other -ers.

Melissa, your bread analogy hits home. I've been making actual bread, and it's really pretty amazing stuff. So few ingredients and so real. And of course, it's calorie-free*

*This is as true as the note about the future Ms. Banks

To be honest, I'd be wary of some of the coaches out there too.. I've dealt with a couple of them who did help me a bit, but were also "working " me at the same time; "before our first session, you need to buy this book of copy for $99"..."You need to come to my next seminar"..."I have a friend who can produce a really good demo for $1500"..

Doesn't the original question pretty much answer itself?

Isn't something that's called a demo "mill" automatically a bad thing?

Kinda' like, "Hey...gas station sushi for lunch today?"

cool

I'm going to run the audio from both of those two videos backwards and see what Secret Messages come out.

People often make that mistake... the actual hidden message is: "Mrs. Mango's crumpets are the best in Budleigh Salterton."

Which is far more troubling.

New VO-BB rule. Every person has to watch this video. Anyone who does NOT comply will be called at 3am by my GP who will sing my medical records.

Actually, I dig the hat and the scarf - it's like Dr. Who or Dirk Gently.
