Hello VO-BB community,

This demo is an audio only read of a Century 21 commercial. If you have the time to listen to it and give your feedback that would be great. Thanks again for everyone's continued generosity!

To my ear, it sounds overly casual for the copy. Of course, that may be what the client wants. But without any direction beforehand, I would assume "...it's as good as done" should be more confident than casual.

I agree that it sounds a bit too casual. I also heard under articulated words sort of slurred together all through. Not that over articulation is better, but this sounded a bit sloppy. And you said Century 21 differently each time. It is important to make sure that you are consistent with the client's name.

Try it again - do something very very different before you try a "real" take. Jump up and down the whole time you read the copy. Hard, Or cry all the way through. Or do it in your best Baptist preacher voice. Or channel Julia Childs after 4 glasses of wine. Then, without thinking about it, stop that foolishness and immediately read the copy again in your "normal" voice.

You should hear a more natural, connected believable read. Your sub conscious brain will be percolating in the background chomping at the bit to get back to the script, because now - after hearing those other people reading the copy - it knows what it happening.

I agree with others using the term "casual"... but as I listened several times, instead of hearing the spoken words, I continued to hear the reading of words. In doing audio books, I would think that the reading of words in possibly acceptable because you are reading a novel. But when vocalizing a commercial read, no evidence of reading the script should be noticed.

I am beyond unqualified to judge this read. I'm a fellow actor. I don't cast, I don't produce, I don't represent. I'm a fellow actor. My interpretation on the copy is my thing. Since I can't see the specs on this, I have no idea what the buyers are looking for.

So, I consulted one of the top vo casting directors in the business to give their 2 cents:

I like his voice but his enunciation is a bit sloppy..and seems if there is a slight "s" thing going on....the read is good, as in, I get what he's going for, it's just the "messy" stuff that messes up his read.

Thanks everyone for the helpful words!

A member on this board once said to me, "In order to get better you need to hear things you don't want to hear and that will give you the tenacity to get better."

In all honesty, I just recorded this read from my microphone at home while looking at a script from online and wanted a judgement on what people thought. It was not a real audition, it was a voice over enthusiast (myself) trying to hear what people thought. Thanks again everyone, it means a lot to me to hear your feedback.
