VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hi everyone!

People seem to really love it, though most of the raving I hear is from the XY gene pool (not that there's anything wrong with that.) Wink

I definitely need a mic upgrade & may have a chance to pick up one locally -- I figure I can always re-sell it if I don't like how it sounds with my setup, but it sounds like most people really like it. Just curious if any of our female VO-BBers have used it? Otherwise I'm thinking about one of the AT mics, 4040, 4033, which i know both seem to get love from the girls.

Lori, make sure you're differentiating between the e100 and the e100s. The "s" is the newer model that's getting all the praise for it's low noise and overall quality. I'm pretty sure that Liz has the older e100, so she may be able to tell you about that one. I have the e100s and it works for me (mid-pitch male... certainly not a bass/baritone), and a female VO who tried it out when visiting. If you've got a line on a well-priced e100s, then re-sale will not be a problem.

I'm like Bish, mid-pitch voice. LOVE, love, LOVE the e100s, but then.... as you said, you already know the guys do.

Yes, that's the one... his "buy it now" of $345 is high considering the B&H price of only a few bucks more. If the bidding goes north of $275, it's worth the extra to get all the assurances of a new one from a reputable dealer.

These days, buying used might be better than new, as I've had two e100s show up DOA in the last 6 months. Make sure seller has at least some short return policy. It works nicely on a woman's voice, I've had a couple lady clients use it.

I have a question which must be asked. Are any of you whom have posted the question - female?

Personally I am not qualified (as a man) to answer Lori's question. I find the E100/(s) a tad pitchy for many female voices. This microphone does not reproduce high's (9 to 11k) smoothly and leaves me wanting better body for a female voice. The "s" can be very touchy for the soprano speaking voice. As a singer this would not be as much a problem, but for VO artists this may be a delicate issue.

Lori, try it before you buy it. The CAD may work for you and may not. I wish you luck.

yeah, i was the highest bidder, but didn't make the reserve at $260. his reserve is about $340 (which means the item wont sell unless it gets to that minimum price) I'd rather buy new in that case (tho' i am concerned about george's comments.) ughh. i don't know now.

If you purchase from a reputable seller (e.g. B&H - who also has the best price) you are somewhat insulated from the over-stretched CAD infrastructure. If it's DoA, you simply deal with B&H. This is where an established brick and mortar store beats on-line (or ebay) every time.

I purchased through a legit dealer, but CAD was so behind in production that we had at least 2-3 week wait to get a replacement unit. I replaced it with an AT4040 on the last job, a very pleasing mic. We're working on getting a CAD rep on a future EWABS, stay tuned!
