I use my real, maiden name.

But technically not my legal name.

So yes. And no. Laugh

Yep. In radio, I didn't use my real first name or last name. Since I was this other dude during the day, he was responsible for all the bad habits: smoking, drinking, being obnoxious; then I'd come home each evening and be mild-mannered. I killed him off several years ago, but his last vestiges just went away when I finally quit smoking earlier this year.

It was quite a struggle.

Yes, although I might have to change that if I ever join Equity, as my name is already taken by an actor who decided to use it instead of his own real name!

It is not just your name, it is your brand. I use my real name and my brand; Frank F "The Voice" tm.

I also use a "nom de plume" (pen name) which is my corporate name for doing business.

Whatever name you choose to use as a professional; make sure you can live up to your own hype every single day, 365 days a year.

'Nuff said!

Nom DePlume does have a nice ring to it.

Plume. Nom DePlume.

While I use my real name on invoices, and on forums such as this, my customers know me as Voice by Scott. Half of them probably can't recall my last name. Pollak is a weird, usually misspelled and/or mispronounced last name. I'm with Frank on this one.

(Oh, and it's Czechoslovakian, NOT Polish, in case anyone wonders. I get that a lot.)

(And in radio I used Scott Stephenson, since my dad's name was Stephen. Get it?) Wink

I don't, but I wish I did. Someone had my name when I joined SAG. I hated the idea of changing it professionally. And I only use my professional name for work. I never changed it legally. Makes tax time and post 9/11 travel a bit of a pain. And it took me years to get used to saying or hearing my professional name.

When I joined the union, I wanted to use my real name, but my real name is Melissa Exelberth, and that was taken. Shocked

But seriously, folks, when I joined the union I was quite surprised that there was not already a Lee Gordon on the roster so I didn't have to change my name. Lee is actually my middle name but I've been using it since the early 70s.
