I have never, ever heard of (what are allegedly professional) studios charging a fee to voice-over talent for demo submission. Anyone?

This studio cites the extra costs incurred due to the "very elaborate, detailed, thorough, and lengthy process" (which they don't reveal) they must go through to apparently evaluate and make the demos available to their clients (but they're not posted on their website).

Hey, without a demo fee, some people would submit too many demos, and that would overload their "highly sought-after talent roster."

The fee is $5 per demo, but that's not the point. Wow.

I would suggest you submit a letter to them informing the "studio" of your fee to submit demos and auditions: Demo submission (The Studio pays) $25.00 for your time, experience, and lengthy in-depth process to create and submit the demo(s); Audition fees are $100 (to you) via internet, and $250.00 in person.

Fees may be waived depending upon the "studios" desire to work professionally with you, maybe.

This is not a "studio" I would desire to be involved with now or in the future.

Somebody has realized that the supply of clueless, gullible, desperate, and inexperienced voiceover wannabes is very large. and they have figured out yet another way to dip their tentacles into that pool to extract more easy money from the suckers.

About 14 years ago, I got a note from a fellow vo actor saying, "Did you hear there's a website that actually charges a subscription fee to receive auditions??" I said, "Yeah, these are clueless, desperate people who just haven't a clue what professional vo is all about."

Cut to today and this thread. It's all relative, and this cycle will continue.

The Internet opened the floodgates years ago for this. I tried so hard to educate the masses around the country. As long as there are people breathing, there will be someone wiling to take the gig. And one person's low ball is another person's windfall. This is all relative as well. It took me years to get it. But the tide has turned. And the definition of working voice actor is vastly different from the average working voice actor just 15 years ago.

I knock wood everyday that I got into this when I did.

This.

For every college student that likes anime and thinks they could be a voice artist, there will be a company figuring out a way to separate the student from his (parents) money.
