VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Since I started doing VO full-time (many years ago) I never had a commercial reel that I was happy with. Every-time I'd produce one, there was always something I had a problem with. In the beginning it was a "made-up" demo, which I produced from copy I had written or found somewhere, or, whenever I did an actual commercial I kinda' liked, I couldn't get my hands on a decent copy. Everyone promised to send a copy, but few ever got around to delivering.

I understand that, of course...When I owned a recording studio I'd always promise to send copies to talent, and I really meant it. It always got put onto the back burner until way too late.

Finally, thanks to the internet, I now, finally, have a reel that I actually like. Today, you don't need to hound a producer for a copy, or try to record off the air - almost everything ends up on YouTube.

Good to hear from you Connie... Hope the media biz is doing better in San Diego than it is here in OC.

You know, one of the really scary things about having a demo that I actually like, is until now, I didn't really have to take responsibility for what was there... I could always say to myself "I'm actually better than this, but due to blah blah blah, this is how the demo turned out.

Yeah, there are some little things I don't like in the new demo, but this is my first commercial reel that says "This is what I do! - If you don't like it, well I wasn't really doing it for you anyway!"

I've always found that whenever I create a new demo, it needs to age for a while (Like fine wine?) before it starts to produce any kind of result. I won't know if it's actually going to accomplish anything for months.
