Happy Friday, friends!
If any of you have been following my sad story about the subway that runs under my apartment and rattles everything while I'm trying to record, I finally have a happy update!
I found an affordable (really!) office space in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn, and tomorrow I'm loading in a used WhisperRoom that I found on Craigslist. Once that is in place, I will finally be able to experiment with my shiny new 416!
I have a 2-year-old Rode NT1A that I'm thinking of sending out to be modded as well.
I'm so excited to have a space of my own and to be on the road to improving my sound quality in a major way. This is something I've been wanting to do for over a year now, but I've been terrified to take the risk in investing in myself and my VO career in such a major way. I have to give credit to all the support, encouragement, and wisdom that I've received from the people here.
Be on the lookout for tales and pics of my progress _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

Congrats! Those upgrades will surely treat you well. Also, I've used the modded NT1a for the last couple years and it had treated me quite well.
Can't wait to hear and see |

As a Whisper Room owner, I know how exciting (and scary) it is but I can assure mine has paid for itself many times over.
Keep in mind you may need to treat the inside of the booth with acoustic panels...... |

That did it! I've been threatening to dig out old address books from two decades ago... and I just did. DUMBO was new to me as a term. It must have been adopted about the time my daughter left "The City". First as an intern and then as a starry-eyed graduate, my oldest child began her Architecture career working in Manhattan, living just East and South of DUMBO on Cranberry Street and Henry. She would WALK to work when weather permitted. Later she lived down a mile or so South of there. (Bergen, 4th Ave, Atlantic, Flatbush) And she would walk from there, also.... all the way to Rockefeller Center!
I suspect there are some "interesting" pieces of property in all price ranges in that part of Brooklyn.
We look forward to pictures.... and war stories. |

DUMBO is proof that just because you can arrange some letters to form an acronym, doesn't mean you should. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

For instance...Toyota Racing Development? I've never understood why people are OK with their truck saying TRD on the side...I always thought that was what people were trying to avoid. |

What Lee said .It's one of the dumber acronyms that popped up in the 90s. I mean Soho , Tribeca they were fine and had meaning when they came into use in the 70s. But dumbo is just dumb. And don't even mention FiDi. Which is what they're now trying to call the financial district.
Brought to you by the same people who've been trying to rename hells kitchen for the last 50 years.
We have to meet up for a coffee or something Julia. But not in dumbo |

Is FiDi pronounced "fiddy" or "Feye Deye" ? _________________ "Bailey"
