I learned years ago that both of the more widely known P2P casting sites are headed and/or operated not by people with any actual, direct experience in the voice-over biz, but by marketing and/or IT gurus who salivated over a burgeoning market. Eh. Some folks have had success with them, others not so much.

An email just arrived from what appears to be yet another such service. We're invited to "join for free," but there is no information to be found on the website revealing anything about the principals and their background and experience in voice-over. However, their website which, by the way, seems to be for any type of performer in the entertainment industry, appears to be part of a company that makes talent and/or casting agency software.

While I guess we can assume they write a mean aHobo Tounge, I don't believe that to be sufficient experience for anything beyond that.

Great. Just what we need. ANOTHER P2P site. And if they aren't bragging about the great team of industry pros behind it all, then it's a good guess that it is indeed another bunch of mickey marketeers.

By the way, what's the URL and how long is this free offer running? I'm, errrr, asking for a friend. Yeah.

Again, the come-on reads, "JOIN for free." The act of signing up costs nothing. There is no further information whatsoever available until AFTER you submit your information, something I stopped falling for years ago. (And, after visiting websites that try to get my personal info before telling me anything, I also remove their cookies from my browsers.)

The website is http://agencyprotalent.com/

Can't you at least take some comfort in the fact that somewhere down the line they are going to try and sell you some probably substandard service you don't really want or need? In this day and age of FriendfaceBook where you pay nothing and still get marketed to (and marketed as product), it's a refreshingly straightforward model, no?

...No? I'm surrounded by cynics!

edited to add: I couldn't help myself and just clicked on the link. It sure looks snazzy. Luverly colour scheme, all vaguely comforting and corporate in equal parts, and - what's this? An auto-on video? AAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!! MAKE IT STOP! MAAAKE ITTTT STAHHHHPPPPPP!!!!!!

I took a look... they are certainly casting their net wide! Everything from screen, print, dance, stage, musical, modelling... I browsed through a few random searches and found... well, nothing of interest. It's just another site feeding off a talent's FoMO (Fear of Missing Out).

I think there is only one word to describe it.

Irrelevant.

It looks, to me, like an existing service that just decided, as an afterthought, to add voiceover to the mix.

After a little digging...

Appears to be run by a Philadelphia area talent agency.

Anybody know Greer Lange?

Yes, they had been a union franchised agency for many years. Apparently, they are no longer.

That's pretty frightening if you think about it. Does that mean they believe this is a better business model?

They've been around for a long time. Casting companies use their software. You don't get anything out of it for signing up for free and it doesn't put you on the casting co's screen. It used to be that you had to sign up with a different name (yourname, yourname1, yourname2) for each individual company. Now it looks like you only need one log in as of this month.
