Just got the reminder email that my subscription to V123 was expiring today.

I've only auditioned there a few times this year. Frankly, I'm too busy taking care of requests from my agents to bother with V123 stuff anyway.

Looking forward to not having an inbox full of low-ball BS.

this relates to philip's IPAD thread, DB's ass kicking thread as well as this one.

it recently occurred to me how much crap i am receiving disguised as potential work. so, i have made a solid effort this week to "unsubscribe" to every automatic "opportunity" email jamming up my electronic communications.

it has made me happy ... (er).

Just because you're cancelling your subscription, what makes you think they're going to stop filling your inbox with crap?

Mine just lapsed, and it was very nice to NOT see any V123 emails. A year and a half ago, I think their pool was smaller. Recently, everytime I sent to audition for something it was already full. Onward and upward!

Good point Lee. At least I can send it all to the Spam folder now.

I opted out of ALL e-mail notifications from V123 years ago, with the exception of the ones that alert me that my audition was 'opened'. Which can, of course, mean many things.

My subscription doesn't expire til next year, and I've been a premium member there for about 10 years, but at this point, I won't be renewing.

In recent years the number of members has exploded exponentially, and the number of decent paying gigs has declined dramatically. When I first began there, it was fairly easy to land a gig out of every 30 or so auditions (I estimate). But now, with so many people on the site, I honestly can't tell you the last time I 'won' a gig there, despite many 4-star ratings. I am, however, also auditioning less and less there anymore.

Ah well, onward and upward, as Jason said.

Same here, let it lapse about 3 months ago and haven't missed it one bit. Seems like a very inefficient and uncreative way to get work.

I am Caviar, WalMart don't market to Caviar buyers.

And don't get me started on my high degree of humility! Laugh

So what are the alternatives? Agents? They're becoming less and less relevant (though I'm still aiming to get at least one or two)

Freelacne? Ha! The sites I frequent make V123 look like union scale.

Mandy? - perhaps, if you carpet bomb the production companies and try to connect with each agent personally.

For those of us less established as Mr. Banks, what choices do we have? Im caviar without any shelf space.

At least for me (in order)....

Referrals
Agents
Direct Marketing

The P2P auditions only were happening during slow week's. The odds are so stacked against talent there now that it's really becoming a time suck, more than anything else.

If I want to throw away some time, I'll play on social media...and save my voice.

I think this simple question highlights the real issue. There are no alternatives to Voices/V123 because they are, in themselves, the alternatives to doing the job properly. They have become the distraction to proper marketing and the seeking of "the important ones" (i.e. the people with the chequebooks).

I entered the industry when they were established and it seemed the correct way to proceed. They steal focus and pretend to be something they're not (a complete solution). They can be an integral (small) part of an overall plan, but they have been endowed with far more importance than they deserve.

... and that is mainly our own fault.

I have recently opted not to renew with V123. Voices is next. It's a difficult decision as I've made many good contacts through them... but they are a time sink and a crutch... I could do far better re-focusing and thinking differently®

Oh, you should, Doug. Everybody wants "conversational - guy next door." That, or Morgan Freeman. Rolls Eyes
