Interestingly enough, the databases and visualizations we use in our shows come from work done at NASA, which AMNH took and used to create a program called "Digital Universe". I have two astronomy visualization production programs that are based partly on the work they did; those programs help us create accurate starfields, galaxy clusters, and so on for our videos. One of the projects I worked on with the museum and another company was a "Pilot's guide" to the Digital Universe program (http://www.amnh.org/our-research/hayden-planetarium/digital-universe).
Very, very cool stuff!
