For what like seems forever I've been meaning to (threatening to?) put together a horror demo and I never seem to have the time to even begin. So I just pulled some of the stuff I've done and edited it together.
Horror
Does it work? Or not? Give it to me straight. Even though I went to school in Manhattan I DID grow up in the Bronx. I can take it. |

Sounds like it was fun doing the bits!
It's an interesting idea, but it seems awfully specialized; is there really a need for a demo that specific? I'd think that anyone needing someone sounding scary would only pick someone based on a custom audition, but that could just be my inexperience talking.
I found the cyclical whine in the second bit, um, annoying. Like, where-are-my-knitting-needles-I-need-to-stick-them-in-my-ears annoying. But that might just be my crappy on-board laptop speakers.
Either way, great reads in there!
Cheers,

I like it and it's fun to pull out on the odd occasion someone is looking for just that kind of read. I'd put one of the 2 character reads at the end in between the first 2 reads to break it up a bit.
But well done! _________________ Pam Tierney

Mel, I think the reads are great! ... Maybe Pam has a point with reordering, but I think it worked just fine.
Rich... I think there's a lot of business out there for specific genres and having a demo ready to go can be a benefit. When I came over to the US, I was surprised that there were so many "Haunted Houses" being set up around Halloween... and each year their production values get bigger and bigger, and they include soundtracks and VO!
Strangely enough, only today I received an email from a NY production house... "If you are interested ... please send me a short demo reel of your work that would best fit a generic horror ... that would be great."
Of course... I'm not as well prepared as eX, so I had to cobble something together quickly _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Wow, Bish! I'm sort of surprised to hear that, and sort of not, I guess: specialization wins again!
So much to still learn about this industry, let alone how to get work in it...

Thanks! I'll play with the order, Pam . Thanks Peter - and Rich to add to what Peter said, with the exception of the first piece which is a book trailer for a horror novel, this was made up of work for Haunted Houses. It's a big market.
thx again guys! |

I absolutely loved the demo, Melissa! Especially the last voice, which reminded me of one of the ladies from my high school cafeteria (the motto of which was "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.") _________________ Mike

wow. this really had me listening. A couple of spots I was disappointed because I didnt get to hear the rest of the story! I sort of forgot I was listening to a demo which is pretty telling.
Very well done and it makes me want to try something like it for fun.
Nice work.
