This
also, "uniquely you" is where the acting chops come in. making the material your own..
coupla other things 1) work with a coach like Nancy Wolfson and you will find you may possess a number of "money voices" 2) the issue of the name brand in the opening spot.. sure everyone knows its probably fake, for the most part, but I believe its about creating the illusion that it "could be" real. _________________ Lee Kanne

My take... I think they listen more than we give them credit for. Whenever I get contacted for a project from a demo, since I've got a wide range, I always ask, 'which clip in the demo fit the project?'. Often it's the fifth or sixth clip in. If it's an AUDITION, it's a different story. I think you've got a few seconds before they decide to stay or move on, as they usually have some kind of preconceived read / voice in mind.
I've worked with Kristin on her demos in the past and she's got a good range with a lot of well known brands to draw from, which I'm sure is why she began the post. I'm against using National names like McDonalds and such if you haven't done them. It shows that you're trying to be something you're not. Just my opinion, but if you HAVE done them, use them. They'll know it's for real. IMO, lead with your best production that highlights you and what you do whether it features an iconic brand or not, then go for a range from there. If it's a showstopper from the beginning, and it's the standard 60 seconds in length, they'll stay with it through most or all of the demo.
I've put together demos for a number of people, including I believe the one that Kristin is using now. If you're interested in hearing mine, it's here http://rickrileyvoice.com/audio.html
Not soliciting business because I don't do demos for pay. Just sharing, that's all. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Agreed with Rick on the Commercial demo. It's good to have a lot of specific demos, though. Hard sell? Soft sell? Narration? Would that be documentary, corporate, or medical?
For reference, these are my money reads:
