Ok, I'm not a big fan of people putting up demos for critique, and I don't want to be a burden, but at this point I am one of them. HOWEVER, I don't want a critique, I just would appreciate your opinion.
This is the Commercial Demo I've been using for some time. https://soundcloud.com/rickriley-1/commercialdemo-rriley
This is THE EXACT SAME DEMO with a different open. https://soundcloud.com/rickriley-1/commercial_demo_2-rriley
If you would just listen to the opening clip and see which strikes you more favorably. That's all. About ten seconds on each if you wouldn't mind. I'm just wondering if I should change things up a bit and the open might be the 'a bit'.
Thanks. And if you ever need 20 seconds of my time, you got it. I'll even double it to show my appreciation. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Tough call... the football open is great and grabs your ear, but the original opener strikes me as being more mainstream/marketable, it may have broader appeal. That said, I can't imagine anyone hitting "stop" on the football opener... unless it was to grab the phone to book you. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I can't exactly say why, Rick, but the original definitely had more impact on me. And, great work, by the way. _________________ Mike

Ditto.

And plus 1. Plus another one. And one more. I think. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Both opening cuts are great of course. The first one has a big energy drop from the first to the second cut which felt odd to me, so I'd lean toward the newer version.

I like the original one, hands down. The first clip in the original is just an excellent few seconds of acting. _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

Thanks all, for listening and the nice comments. So far, seems to be leaning towards the one I'm using now.
The reason I'm asking is because the football opening lives on the street where I get a lot of work. Hence, put it out front. But the original, IMO fits better. In the demo I tried to tell a little story, however it might be so subtle that it's lost. The first clip says, 'When seconds count it's the hours spent over the details that mater', which goes into, 'So as engine manufacturers began...' which goes into, 'But then one day someone told you to try the Porterhouse...' into 'nothing like this, the Platinum selling release from Rascal Flats...' into ' With unlimited and nationwide calling, they get tons of calling features' and so on. I have a feeling that was my own little game, that's probably gone pretty much unnoticed. Even as I explain it, it sounds kind of 'out there'.
Regardless, survey seems to say things should stay status quo.
Thanks again. If you need anything, call on me. Either here or via email, rick@rickrileyvoice.com

The first one. But I have to say, I had to listen to them both a few times to circle back to it because the football spot is pretty bad a$$. It reminds me of Peter Cullen.
I don't think either would be a mistake. |

Football is your wheelhouse. I'd use it the most and keep #1 for specific clients. |

It IS a tough call. They're both fantastic and at first I immediately went for the original but after listening a few times I changed my mind. Here's why,
The original is - to me - more attention grabbing, but it's the first few seconds of the PRODUCTION that grab my attention most - they make me want to LISTEN UP! But I'm listening to the production and you're one of the production elements all of which are awesome - so YOU don't make a larger impact than the music. So it's up to the second spot to really hear you.
The second version I hear YOU right out of the gate - with the production supporting you. I didn't even know it was sports until you said gridiron and by then I was totally hooked. So for me, the second wins - by a nose. |

I like the second intro, as it has less wait time (as eX said) and there's less music, it catapults your sound (voice) and gets down to business. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!
