To answer the original question, how many of us are "out there?"
Most of us. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

As in, "How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Nowhere At All?"?

To be in the top 1% of earners in the world of voiceoverists, $25,000 per year in fee income will get you there?.
What about the voiceoverists with the big-time talent agencies?,..they've gotta be earning more than $25K... |

I was told they won't even look at you unless you're billing $50K a year.. |

Well, they could just send spies to join this forum...
I am, of course, just kidding. I really felt like there was a good one-liner to go with the $50k comment about my dating experience before I got married, but decided against that. _________________ Finally, Ford stops starting to say things and starts. |

In LA that's called "negotiating".
Thanks to an internet we all have IASBI (Income And Success By Implication) yet there are countless blogs, posts and comments to be found in which proponents of IASBI who tell you how to succeed, who guide you to greater riches also refuse to define their success and "riches".
"Well here in (name country) it's considered rude to ask how much someone makes, it's none of their business." Very true if it is a random, nosey question but in context of our business if they raised the subject then they must be prepared to be challenged, politely, on the facts.
My bud Rich is a TRE Captain (Type rating examiner). His piece of paper says that he got to fly an Airbus by doing certain things. Got to teach other people to fly an Airbus by doing another bunch of stuff and then got to test people and say that they were ok to fly an Airbus too!
Awww he was just bragging! I'm gonna call him out the pompous, arrogant, big headed , ***hole.
I'm Philip, a voiceoverist and I'm qualified to fly an Airbus coz I did what Rich told me to do. That's the last time I ever call someone out!
A VO person who does the IASBI thing is not at fault. The Rabbit in their head working the controls needs to understand that what he makes them say and do has consequences. |
