The 45-50 other VO-BB members who are already signed up for Faffcamp and I look forward to meeting you there.
FYI, Faffcon was born here at the VO-BB. Thus, Faffcamp has it's origins here, as well. So that could explain the lack of immediate response to your survey. We're already past "interested" and on to "going." _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

But participating in the community first might have been a better first step. |

For those of you who are veterans to VO-BB, thank you for your patience. I posted my Promo code because I wasn't seeing any Promo codes for the event. And yes, I posted it to get the $25 off. If someone offered you an opportunity to promote an event and the possibility of getting $25 off for spreading the news, who wouldn't take it?
With that said, I am learning the ediquette of posting in forums. My experience with other forums has been, to say the least, mixed. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but it seemed that each thread started out with promise, but then descended into snarky commentary and disrespect for those who were "new." I finally stopped frequenting those forums because there was little to no value coming out of those discussions.
So, again, I appreciate your comments. I will try to participate in this forum because y'all are my peers, and I have a growing passion for VO work. However, I ask that you not drive people away when something that seems obvious to you might not be obvious to someone new.
Thanks... |

I am usually not snarky at all. A quick browse of the archives would see my warm welcome to any newcomer. Everyone is a newcomer at some point. But is there anywhere on earth where you make friends by offering a product? We are talking about universal social media etiquette really. Nothing unique to any particular forum.
Please accept my apologies if you were offended by my comments. But a simple introduction would be awesome.
I'm Jason Welcome to the VOBB. Llama shovel is in the back |

You have plenty of time before FaffCamp II to do some homework.
One of the first things I would recommend is that you start critically listening to any and all types of voiceover work where people are actually getting paid to record the VO. Begin to learn what sets the good apart from the not-as-good.
As you start to develop your skills in this area, you can truly start evaluating what you are doing and finding a baseline. From there, as you work the craft, you should be able to start hearing when you are improving and where you might fit - what genre of voiceover work your voice is suited for.
Do NOT do your demos too soon. You need to figure out what you do best - where you know that you can be not only competitive, but better than competitive.
Your sales background can be very helpful, but knowing where you fit so you know who you should be approaching and having a product (a demo) that proves it provides you with that all important element to close a sale. _________________ Playing for a living...

Well... there was this post about 7 threads down in this very forum... but who's checking?
You'll get the hang of the forum. Do search the archives!
