Hey Kids

I've determined that a move to the phpBB3 framework isn't breaking as many posts (if any— I couldn't find any.) in translation as it did before, so I will be working on that in the coming days.

If you'd like to take a look at what the new board will look like go to

vo-bb.com/phpBB3

It is very much more complicated, but has loads o' features.

Don't bother posting anything there that you want to keep, I'm going to blow it up and start over once I've done some more testing.
I need to check themes and stuff.

Anyway— that will be our new home in the New Year.

Very clean... very sterile... very antiseptic... and right loaded avatars are messing with my karma. Gasp

Maybe it's just me ... old and set in my ways. Lips Are Sealed

Yeah, that's the default theme. I'll have a couple more including Comic Book.

I like it, Deirdre. I like the simpler, cleaner look.

One thing did jump out at me (because of my history as a typesetter); you probably caught it, too: some special characters aren't displaying properly.

Other than that, it rocks!

Great work... and thank you!

Yeah, the special characters break because of the text encoding change between versions 2 and 3.

Can you send me a link with a character problem? My super-quick perusal of posts old and new did not show problems.

Someone brave can attempt to repair the database, but it will not be me!

I don't think this new translation has broken as many posts as my first attempt in 2008.

Anyway— the plan is to close this board, but keep it published in read-only mode in case some old posts are illegible on the new board.

I like that the new board allows searching the members list by letter of the alphabet, rather than having to scroll through the pages one by one. Plus, the new one lists birthdays, so I won't have to do quite as many of those searches.

Looks cool to me. I kinda like the avatars on the right. But hey, I'm much less concerned with what it looks like than what's going on here so hack away! Smile

It's all good Deebs. For someone who uses subSilver* it's actually a very small visual change. The right-hand avatar etc is weird, but that's only because change is always weird at first.

* to be honest, ComicBook style invokes a visceral response in me... it's nasty, nasty, nasty.

I'm looking forward to the addition of the Comic Sans skin. The default style is so sterile and everything including the buttons is so tiny.

The new functionality looks like fun. Hopefully you'll give us a tour of interesting new features later on.

Anyway, thanks for the hard work. And don't you know the minute you get every bit of phpBB3 installed and working to perfection they'll release phpBB4.

Ain't technology grand?

Just found out that the NEWEST version of phpBB3 (3.1.2) does not play nice with any of our favorite styles like ComicBook or SubSilver.

The example board is "ProSilver" theme.

I will see what happens with an install of the last phpBB3.0.

Things are pretty bleak with themes/styles for the latest version.
Bleah.

I have tried an earlier version of phpBB3 and I can get the SubSilver theme to work (the "normal" version for this board) but comicbook does not work at all.

BOO.
Not sure what to do since the author of comicbook isn't likely to be making any updates.

Try the theme called RedSilver.

It's pretty close to the setup we have here, just not as jolly.

....yet.
