|
|
Hi all,
Thanks in advance for any responses! I'm getting ready to tackle a fairly decent size audiobook. Most of my audiobook work is business/marketing "how to" stuff. My question is in this particular book...there are a lot of references with 99% of the references being website links. Some of the links are really, really long and there is no way you could voice the entire link and have it make sense..here's an example:
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Visual-Storytelling-Visuals-Videos-ebook/dp/B00HSO0XDK/ref=s-
r_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415839308&sr=8-1&keywords=Visual+Content+marketing
So....would you just reference the www.amazon.com as the reference and you'd be good or does/has anyone had any experience referencing links within an audiobook project?? Hope this makes sense. Any help is greatly appreciated! _________________ Jeff Augustine

I don't have any particular experience with a web address that long, but I think your idea is a very good one. If you're able to contact the author and chat about it and come to an agreement, then I'd advise to do so. Listening to something like that would be awful, and your instincts are right to try to make it more listenable. _________________ * * * * * * * * * *

Karyn wrote it correctly - contact the author - period! In most cases when reading an audio book, you should read it as written. In this case, it is not what you want or feel is correct - "the customer is always correct" - so do as the author directs.

A book is meant to be read. An audiobook is meant to be heard. Reading a book does not make it an audiobook. Someone should be adapting the text to suit the medium.
One can look at Niagra Falls but it makes crap radio. |

I think there is maybe a misunderstanding of what I'm saying?? The reference links are at the end of the chapters...as in giving credit to a source (like a term paper) for part of the content written. This isn't a novel with a story line per se, it's a book about social and content marketing. It's more instructional/how to rather than story/character as I mentioned in the first post. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether it's appropriate to read the entire referenced URL link in book that uses lengthy URL's as references _________________ Jeff Augustine

Suggestion, based on somewhat similar challenges in other books I've listened to:
Either the author or his publisher needs to set up a web page that has a clear description of these items and each is linked to the appropriate URL. Early in the book give the URL for the site a time or two or three. Then, each time you come to one of those links in the script, you'll read "and go to our site and click on 'Power Story Telling Visuals', to learn more"... or some such.
Very convenient for you and your listener.

My response would be, "Okay, well, let me know when you decide." _________________ Cheers,

Someone on the team needs to know and the person reading the book is not that someone. |

This is good. Since the author doesn't have a strong (and possibly incorrect) opinion on this, it's your opportunity to give him some professional advice. And, naturally, that involves keeping it simple. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
