|
|
Hello! I have my first Source Connect session with a client booked for tomorrow morning. I'm trying out the trial of Source Connect Standard on my imac. I've successfully installed and set up everything, and I can hear myself looping back when I connect with the echo-test. The studio I'm connecting with will be doing all the recording, so I'm not even looping my DAW into the mix.
My question is, does the client give me direction through the Source Connect connection? or do I need to patch them through to my ears through another connection? Is the self-loop-back that I hear during the echo test meant as a stand-in for the voice of the engineer on the other end of the connection? Or will I hear myself looping back when I'm recording? Am I thinking about this too much? _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

Sounds like you have everything working properly. Yes, the client will direct over Source Connect (unless other arrangements were made prior). If you'd like to do a test, which is never a bad idea, I'm available this morning.
I'll check back here on the board or you can PM. |

Sounds like you've got it under control. To answer one of your questions, the client will record on their end and you don't need to record at all. If you DO record (like for a backup) the input of your DAW will be your mic, not the output of SC, so you won't here the client in the recording...unless they talk during the recording and you are using speakers instead of headphones (which can be a dangerous choice since they would be able to hear themselves back if you don't ride the input).
Was that too much? |

Not too much at all! That makes perfect sense. I'll be using earbuds. Maybe I'll record it just for fun. Thanks for the info! _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

"There are no dumb questions."
Contrary to popular mythology, the above statement is not true. There are dumb questions. But yours wasn't one of them. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Just an update - my session this morning was a breeze! Everything went smoothly without any hiccups. The construction workers next door even stopped hammering for the half hour. Life is good. _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

There are no dumb questions, except the one you didn't ask that you should have... _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
