I cannot speak to TV. I've never had cable or fiber television services. However...

I had FiOS when I lived in Providence, RI. Loved it. I still dream of my symmetrical 25mbps connection while watching my files trickle up to the cloud. It made sending files to clients and subcontractors a breeze and cloud backup a viable 3rd tier backup option.

I hate dealing with Verizon the company. I've used their FiOS, DSL, and wireless and customer service was nothing but nightmares. One time I had such trouble getting through to support I snail mailed a letter to them—and two months later it got returned to me! Even their listed mailing address was wrong.

That said, once I went through the hours and hours of phone calls to get FiOS set up it never went down. Ever. Rock solid. TWC is awful by comparison. Despite my horrible experience with their customer service I would get FiOS again in a heartbeat if they offered it in my area.

Joining this late but relevant
I switched from cablevision (aka Optimum TV).
I have copper ISDN and FIOS internet, TV and Phone.
I like having all the channels, even if I only watch a certain number -- so I am never going to drop the service for a cut rate deal -- like the one dish is offering.
A la cart service will be more negative than people realizes because many channels will go down when people can opt out of them, Another discussion.
FIOS products are great especially internet. 150/150.
TV services are great -- though the boxes are a bit more cumbersome to operate. The con is customer service. To get someone on the phone is a mess, though once they come on, they seem to know what they are doing.
The other thing FIOS lacks is internet hot spots, which my old cable company has all over the place. So you could have wifi everywhere. Not all that important but it is a point and they advertise it plenty.
