DB, what do you mean by "granular" in terms of a demo. I'm unfamiliar with the context in which you are using it here.

Bruce, does that mean dry voice? I'm try to see what that means in a demo context. Otherwise to me it is like obscure booth direction, e.g., more blue. Maybe I'm being too literal. Or does it apply more to games and a animation which are not my forte?

Just means "Not a mix of stuff."

It's a single snip of a single ad/narration/character in a single sound file, or a couple of very short snips in a single file.

Same thing can be used for commercial very short examples of hard sell, Soft announce, guy-next-door, grandma, etc.
