|
|
So I've got lots of new work to add to my demo - and I've come up with a few different versions of various spots. I have reached the point where I am too close to it to be able to hear what works anymore.
Here's a link to the different versions:
http://www.juliaknippenvoiceovers.com/alt-demo
I'm reaching the end of my classwork with Nancy, and I'd like to go into my demo meeting with her putting my best foot forward. I know she's been putting a file of copy together for me to produce a brand-new demo, which I'm ready to do, but I don't want to make one just to make one. Ya know?
I'm trying to get a union agent here in NYC, so that will be the audience for this bad boy.
Let her rip! I can take it!
Thanks for listening _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

I’ve made a lot of demos. In fact, when I contacted Nancy for her course, she opted not to make me one as she said she couldn’t make one for me that would be better than I already had. But it took her four times to listen to it before she came up with that conclusion.
With that being said, if I were making your demo I’m sure it would be different than what you have, only because I would take your clips and put them together in a style that MY ear heard as dynamic, which most likely wouldn’t be far from what you already have. It would just be more 'me' with your work. And maybe a little tighter, but that's it. What I WILL offer is, you are going to be getting a LOT of work. A LOT OF WORK! Congratulations. Your time and effort have been well spent!!! _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Not an expert on demo's in any sense, but I know that I like your demos
The 30 second demo is my favorite of all of them. But they all have good variety and showcase your voice and presentation quite well.
In any case, +1 to what Rick said. _________________ www.scottsvoiceover.com - An American voice in Finland

11 seconds into the 30 and I'd heard enough. You'll do just fine. |

You rock. Sounds terrific. Great variety, holds interest, and does a good job conveying your money voice. _________________ Alex Rain |

Gurrrl, you've got "young/conversational" all sewn UP!
If I had to nit-pick, I'd say the Bulova spot is my least favorite, only because I don't understand why the guy is there to begin with, and it cuts off really abruptly. But I get that it's your one "sexy" offering, so you want to keep it... Can you edit out the dude and re-configure so it doesn't cut off in the middle of the last "s"...?
Even if you can't, it's a fantastic demo. Go get 'em... _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Just saw this - these are great!
I love the spot you're starting out with, that belongs right where it is. I agree with Kristin about the Bulova. Just cut the guy out - and extend the end of piece. If you don't have it you can find an s somewhere to extend it a hair. I like it at the end. _________________ www.melissaeXelberth.com

Yep. In the :30 you are were more aggressive for short clips. Which you should be. I loved the Airline spot in no. 3...BUT after you establish how you sound KILL IT...and go to the next. Otherwise you are killing ME. Don't make me wait. Don't waste time. Don't try to make sense or finish a thought. Simply show me HOW YOU SOUND.. Show me the next. Show me the next. I'll know if you're the voice I'm looking for in the first 5 seconds. If you have a DIFFERENT approach/voice then SHOW ME THAT QUICK. I'm a busy man.
AND yes....you have some excellent chops. You will find work. But, you have a better change by showing MORE of what you can do. And to do that, The MORE you show in the SHORTEST time...will pay off. IMHO.
But, of course... _________________ "I reserve the right to be completely wrong." |

Thanks Melissa and Clutter Ash -
I've taken all the advice to heart, and I've whittled down 6 clips into a :34 second demo:
http://www.juliaknippenvoiceovers.com/
I'll be updating it again as soon as I get copies of spots I recently did for a national radio campaign. Then I'll be able to include a flavor of "get your hot dog buns for $x.99 for a limited time!"
