|
|
Hello all
I've just updated my Commercial demo reel with almost all new stuff. I'd love to know what you all think.
My main worry is that a lot of it sounds quite samey.
Any and all tips, criticisms, pointers are *greatly* appreciated!
Here's the reel.
My main worries:
1. Is the first spot too long?
2. Is there too much dead air in the Speakerbus spot?
3. Is the audio quality on the Kit Kat spot too low?
4. Is the music too loud in the 'This is Nova' spot?
Thanks all! |

Hello Will,
Overall, pretty good reads. Overall just a little muddy sounding... maybe a titch over-compressed? You also get too close to the mic sometimes with a little proximity effect and small plosives.
It is a bit long (1:35) and you can lop off 15 seconds right away (IMHO) by dropping the first piece. It's a very artificial read compared to many of your other bits. I'd consider starting with the Nova piece. I'd shorten a couple of the others. There are dangling follow up lines that don't need to be there. Was KitKat part of the fast paced read or separate? That wasn't clear by being put at the very end.
I'd work most on clarifying your audio, maybe with a little EQ?
Onward, mate.

Awesome!! Thank you, Bruce.
Yeah - I agree re: muddy. Turns out I left a compression preset on the master track when I edited it all together. Whoops!
Thank you for the feedback - I'll give it a tweak or two. |

Alrighty. I've restructured and condensed everything a little bit.
I've also removed the accidental compression, and added a little EQ to try and un-muddy the whole thing a little bit.
The new version can be found right here.
Any more comments from anyone would be wonderfully, fantastically appreciated! |

I really enjoyed that. My only gripe would be the 1st 2 clips have a pretty similar read. I'd actually consider putting the Nova one at the end... it's kinda slow and drawn out, doesn't really grab the listener (or me, at any rate).
Very nicely done! _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

Thank you! You're right - the first two spots were very samey, so I've moved things around yet again to try and make things a little more diverse. There were two towards the end which were also very samey.
I've kept the Nova clip at the start because I'm quite fond of it (and because it makes a nice opening).
The spot is live at the same link as before if anyone else would like to weigh in?
Thank you again so much everyone! This forum is a wonderful thing. |

I'm impressed. I like it a lot, Will. To my ears, beginning with the Nova clip works just fine. And you've got a wide variety of styles, too. Sounds great! _________________ Mike

Thank you so much, Mike.
I feel like I really like the way that it flows now, and it's down to a manageable length. I'm ready to go live!
Thanks all for your input and advice. |
