Wave when you drive past my place in your shiny rented car. I believe Route 66 goes right down Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena -- the Rose Parade route.
Hope you're able to pull off this Evil Plan. It's a good 'un.

Be sure to plan a stop in Radiator Springs. Flo's cafe is excellent.

I do NOT want to put any kind of damper on this, but the last part of December can be very cold and snowy along more than half of your route. Maybe you should rent/buy something big and 4WD and then swap for the Corvette in California.

... but if you want to see America through a different window... go Amtrak.
NYC to LA... $900 plus tax... includes roomette and most meals... 4 nights.

When you arive in LA... consider the weather you experienced on the previous trip. If doable, rent a car in LA, drive back east for meet n greets along the way.

Were I able to get the Trainest to pull over so I could climb a mountain or tour the Interesting Cheeses Co of Oklahoma it would be a good idea. Car and hotels, best idea.

I wonder if the Duncan Hines Travel Guide is still being published?

Holy butter cream, I just Googled Duncan Hines a week ago. I'd remembered their slogan, "Always an adventure in good eating." But I don't think the travel guide is published anymore.

Between his company and Stouffer's, folks used to have some good eats as they traveled.
