Understood, Rich. No disrespect taken. The main thrust of what I'm saying is that unless/until people start making a lot of noise about this kind of thing – publicly (aka social media) and by not actively participating (playing the game by either buying and or posting and clicking on these sites), it will continue to worsen.

An example of something getting worse; on a different subject but for the same reason: Until now, Times Square was – to my knowledge – the only place where brand names and logos were hugely splashed across buildings. This morning I saw an online photo of New York City's Herald Square, now with similar bombastic advertising. How much time will elapse before all the buildings in Herald Square are plastered with advertising and it begins in other cities and neighborhoods?

What began a few years ago as promo graphics covering the lower-third of TV screens have now begun – as I knew they would – to steal a little more visual real estate, growing ever taller. And these are displayed only moments after returning from commercial breaks, too. When will enough be enough?

The corporate mantra these days appears to be "Because We Can." So, at what point do we finally begin to say we've had enough with them ruling more and more of what we experience? Corporations are very much like children: unless there is a VERY definite, unquestionable "NO!" a lack of response will continue to be translated as a passive "yes."

I work with a lot of guys who track data, mine data, and know data.

I choose carefully where I opt in, and allow most to know only my burner accounts.

Those that I trust serve me useful data, including ads.

Those that betray my trust serve me crap, because they do not have my trust. Usually, that's not an issue for long.

I generally do not fear those who I allow to know me.
