As I've been investigating which web hosting service to switch to, I have encountered something in the specs that I have wondered about. Some services offer a choice of Windows hosting and Linux hosting. I know the difference between Windows and Linux, but what difference does it make for web hosting. I'll just be uploading html pages, pictures, audio files, etc. so does it make any difference at all for someone like me? _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Hey Lee,
For what you're doing, doesn't matter a bit. Usually a Linux box is cheaper as you're really paying for the hosting technology that's driving the site. A windows hosting plan will let you run ASP pages (ASP is a Microsoft language, and thus it's licensed to the hosting company, which in turn costs you more money).
Linux boxes mostly run on PHP, a free and open source server platform, and a little big cheaper.
Go with Linux and save some dough.
Here's a great little company that I've used for years, and they have some great plans for shared hosting: https://asmallorange.com/hosting/shared/ _________________ Pax vobiscum
