Gang, I've been advised that being that this is still in the beta phase, it's not at all complete and should not be used or shared as a business tool. That said, I am optimistic that a more complete version, with all the bells and whistles needed for all aspects of what we do, for every contract and every market, will be available and user friendly for both actors and buyers. I will keep you all posted as things progress!! |

It's already the best tool I've seen for demystifying the labyrinth of rates. I hope they'll also make it available as an a for iPhone and Android. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

My concern is that this is going to get super complex and confuse clients just as trying to wade through the SAG-AFTRA rate card does. _________________ Jeff

We can always dream of an easy to use system, Kafer!
And Bob...yeah...hate to tell you, but this is already all over the Interwebz.
People are already sharing it & using it.
It's IS a GREAT start...tell them that it is greatly appreciated and being used already and we are waiting for more options to make it even better! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

I see this more as a tool for us to use when a potential client asks, "How much is this going to cost me?" than for the client to use as a DIY thing. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Yes, Lee...that IS what is is turning out to be...but...in the Union's eyes...WE are not supposed to be doing that. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

More indication that, even when the union gets it, they don't get it. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Sadly, this appears to be a true statement. _________________ Be well,

The way I see it, it can and should be a tool for both!!
We now have two generations of buyers who have been conditioned in the ease and speed of hiring non union talent. We also have two generations of talent who have been conditioned to seek out vo work in a way that brings them more opportunities but fewer benefits. This calculation is a way to bring it all together.
As you ALL know, it's not uncommon for a non union job to have the budget of a union rate, or higher. Many buyers have no interest or even education to go through the hoops to do it union. If the actor can take away the heavy lifting from the buyer with a click of a mouse, changing nothing in the way the buyer does business, it's a win for both. But that click has to supply everything! And what we have right now in this beta testing is a great start! The most proactive step I've seen from the union regarding this issue!
Neither this, nor anything else will be the perfect solution or bring union benefits to everyone pursuing vo. There will be many, from buyers to actors, who just want nothing to do with any of it. Change is hard. Some are content to keep things the way they are. Some just don't want to learn a new or updated way of doing things. Some are just too bitter to trust or try. But there are some in both camps who really want this! It's a huge win if only 2% of the work out there goes union. I think the percentage would be higher, but I'm always very conservative in this sort of thing.
I am as frustrated with the way things have gone down as the rest of you! I think I've bent both of DB's ears so much they have fallen off. And, I've stepped down from being as active as I've been at the union regarding my involvement on the voice actor's behalf. It gets pretty exhausting when I see the union spinning it's wheels as well as bitterness and negativity from those whom I've tried to help and bring more benefits to. So, if this tool can help bring pension and health benefits to those who have never received them from doing vo work, as well as residuals flowing in during the slow times, I'm a happy man! And if just 2% more are able to enjoy these benefits, I'm elated! |

Bob, you ROCK!
You have been a voice of reason for us at the Union level, and I'm so sorry that you have been thwarted and are less involved.
Thanks for all you have done, and CONTINUE to do, even of you aren't as involved as before.
Yes, this IS a great start, and I will use it, even in its current beta stage, as it's better than anything we have had before. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

You are absolutely right.
Even if a talent simply wants to answer the question, "How much do I stand to make from this project?" it's a great tool. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Don't use it now,Liz! It's not accurate. Just in the example stage. And it's market specific.
...and thanks for your nice note! |
