VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hey all,
I need recommendations for a non - Apple router that works seamlessly with source connect standard.
I tried to get a source connect session going with my Apple Express router, and apparently there is a known issue of non compatibility.
It kept dropping the connection consistently at the 2 minute mark.

Oh. Joy.

As I said I have source connect standard, running on windows 8 PC

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What internet provider do you use? I'm on Comcast and the Cicso DPC3939 wireless gateway works great.

Just finished a SC session in Germany with no issues today.

I haven't done an SC Now session yet, but my Apple Airport router works OK with ipDTL. Although I'll admit on both of those sessions I recorded my end and had to send it on because of dropouts on their end. Unknown whose problem it was. Hmmmm.

my Apple router worked fine with IP DTL, but there is apparently a known issue between source connect and the Apple Express. Right now I have my computer pluggrd directly into my cable modem which is a UDEE and that seems to be working fine but it has completely messed up my entire network and its not a viable solution going forward. So I need to get a new router so that I can really start using source connect with amazingly enough has just now started to pick up on my end.

Hard to go wrong with a Linksys modem.

However, I would not trust "wireless: for a serious session. You can always plug directly into the router while doing critical work. Then, unplug and go back to wireless if you wish. This would not affect your network one way..or the other.

The cable modem supplied to me by Comcast (i.e. Xfinity) doubles as a router. The manufacturer appears to be Technicolor. Perhaps your cable provider has something similar available. I have no idea if this will play nicely with Source Connect, but it's one fewer device in the chain. Mine works at least as well as the Linksys router it replaced.

Known compatibility issues with Airport Extreme's latest incarnation, I guess it also effects the Airport Express, now.

Asus, Netgear, Linksys, none of them will cause problems. What WILL cause problems are "double NAT" situations, so if you are connecting a router to another router provide by the cable/DSL provider, make sure that situation is avoided.

My cable modem apparently has some sort of router within in...will that cause this issue?

I JUST finished a 90 minute Source Connect session with my PC plugged directly into my Cable modem and it worked fine...BUT the entire rest of my network is screwed up and so I really need a router to get everything back up & running.

ugh.

Is there a specific model you guys would recommend...or specific specs I need to look for or avoid?

I need an IT Department!

If your cable modem has a built in wireless router, it could be your solution. You should be able to set it up and have it be the replacement for your Apple Express.

I wish it were that simple. I can't get my network back up the way I need it using just the cable modem. I had my computers linked a certain way and basically I can't get things to work right. So that is why I'm looking at getting another rouer.

A dual band router would probably be best to support multiple devices at your home and office.
The folks at NetGear say Simultaneous Dual Band Routers provide the ultimate in flexibility and performance by providing two independent, dedicated networks.

I'm sure the other mfgs all have dual band routers. I think you would be ready for new products coming out that would utilize one or the other band in the future. N band being the newer one.
