Lee, baby… (which, by the way, Lee Baby Sims was one of the greatest rock jocks ever to hit the airwaves) I hope you realize that by saying you all were soooo condescending, that I was being facetiously condescending. This whole Brain Gravy crap, IMO, is just stupid. To be successful at anything, again IMO, you have to have a passion, not a passing interest. The $29 is just an entry fee to other higher priced products until the buyer finally loses interest because they really aren’t getting anywhere.

This, ‘Hey, you can make money with your voice…’ fad reminds me of the stock market when the NASDAQ was in its heyday. ‘Hey, you can make easy money in the stock market, just take this simple course’. I did that and found out that you can make a small fortune. All you have to do is begin with a large one.

Twenty nine bucks. Really? And over a thousand people are going to bite? IMO, these guys are shysters. If they are successful in the business then they know what it takes and they know they aren’t going to show someone how to be successful, or even be real with them in what it TAKES to be successful, for twenty nine bucks. ‘Just round em up and herd em in. And make sure they’re postured to make it easy for us to pick their pockets!’

My 2 cents.

Fun topic but the serious side is the downside no one wants to know. I'm certain Rick could tell tales of when ....

I've told many people that in my second year as a full-time VO I went into Christmas with £11, that about $16 to pay all my bills and celebrate the birth of the tiny baby Jesus. For the record the Lord is supposed to provide, he didn't! In fairness he was probably on holiday, well it was Christmas.

I totally get that. The extra o's were the giveaway. cool

And yes, Lee Baby Sims was a legendary DJ. When I arrived at WPOP, where he preceded me by about seven years, the Chief Engineer, who had worked with him, dubbed me "Lee Baby," so I had some pretty big shoes to fill. I'm sorry I never got to meet him. His death, earlier this year, was a shock.

Oh, and another local "Gravy" connection: pop icon, Wavy Gravy went to high school here in West Hartford.

Totally OT. When he was working at KROQ in LA, and I had just gotten into radio in Sarasota, I came back home to LA for a visit. I called him, told him I’d gotten my first gig and asked if I could come down and say hi.

He was doing nights and maybe he misunderstood me, and heard me say, ‘could I come down and GET high’. I arrived and he was most gracious. We sat and smoked a joint (he provided) and yakked while the songs played, and I’ll never forget it, as a song was ending, in the blink of an eye he stopped our conversation, swiveled 90 degrees, flipped open the mic and went into some totally relevant rap about the song, the artist and some story in his life. HE DIDN’T MISS A BEAT. I was so enamored by that, I can see it like it was yesterday. And he was stoned while he did it. At that point I wasn't even sure who I was.

Yes I too was saddened by his death. Especially when I found out he took his own life. I don’t think he was ever recognized for the talent that he really was. And how humble he was in making me feel as though I was instantly one of his friends. Lee Baby Sims. To those of us in the industry, a radio legend.

The best part of VO-BB is being invited into the lives of other people and hearing their stories. Rick thank you for the invitation.

I have to admit that my first thought was, "why didn't I think of this?" My second thought was, "I could still do it because you see multiple chiropractors, dentists, yoga studios, etc., all the time on this site." My third thought was, "I just can't bring myself to be such a turd."

Hey all, I haven't been here for a while and am just popping in! Gravy For The Brain is run by Hugh Edwards who casts VOs for computer games and Peter Dickson who's one of the (if not THE most) most recognised and successful voices in the UK.

I took one of their gaming voices workshops a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, I learned a lot. I haven't taken any of their online courses however, but I do know that they have forums for all the people that bought a course where they can get advice and feedback and offer Google hangouts where they Q&A on all aspects voiceover. They also offer the chance to have demos critiqued by the two of them. This isn't just a product - they have a whole support system in place for their customers.

I'm not advocating the course, but just thought I'd give a bit of background info.
