Finn died yesterday. I had a Skype conversation with his wife, Sally. What follows is the part the chat that really made me think.

"Died on the golf course the cheeky bugger!" she said.

I asked if she was going to be ok.

"Of course dear" she winked "We've been together for so long that he'd have to do a bloody site more than simply die to remove himself from my life"

This woman has loved one man for well over 40 years.
Sent people guilty of war crimes to prison whilst sitting as a Judge in the Hague.
Cared for a daughter and grand daughter in their time of need.
Publicly shown the strength of an army in tough times.
Privately wept in my arms at a time when those closest to her needed her to be a rock.

Sally is more than worthy of the title hero and I am beyond proud to know her.
