So...what do you guys think?

Audition comes in..it's not that the grammar is shaky..it is...it's that the writing throws away the musical rhythm the spot is meant to have .. They aren't big changes..more tense change than anything else. I want to fix it and read it the way it should be. It's an audition...not a gig..really I can do whatever i like I guess. But should I?

This post should be fun Smile

Read it the way you want to . A job is a different story, but an audition?

Do it your way and hit send. I think sometimes they are looking for a little take- charge from the talent.

But then again you could totally turn them off by doing so, but what the hey that's show biz eh? cool

Try having someone read the copy to you. You might find a different patter or rhythm emerge.

This is why God created take two. And, this is my process for most auditions. Take one is exactly what they ask for. The script went through miles of approvals before it gets to the audition. In take two, give em what will book you the job.

I feel the same way Bill does; not only because I've experienced the same issues, but there have been times when I've had to pick myself up off the floor while saying, "They can't actually MEAN that, can they?"

So I agree that submitting two takes is the best way.

Although, I must admit, there have been times I chose not to submit at all in those extreme cases; imagining a session from hell, dealing with the work of (or, worse, being directed by) someone who appears to have chosen writing as a career on the advice from a fortune cookie. Wink

LOL--I read it as written, in both takes...it was minor enough not to deal with it....I made the phrasing work okay

Thanks for your comments and poll votes.

If I catch a small grammatical mistake, I will automatically correct it and assume, when they hear it, they'll just think they had done it right all along. If they ask for a re-do, I will provide it.

If I encounter errors in a live session, I will usually say something like, "I could be wrong, but I've heard this said like this ..." and offer to do it for them both ways, just in case. But even when I know I'm right and they're wrong, I always cast the doubt upon myself, not them.

It's a great technique, Lee..I do the same thing. As Maice Tobias said, "accidentally" read it right..that way, it's recorded.

Right, Karyn LOL I usually make a little apology, and that's often when they notice I'm right. Otherwise I "fix" it for them so it's...uh...wrong. Wink

OMG, just learned this last night in class. So eye opening for me. I had to stop the instructor and say "wait, did you say you always submit 2 takes?"

I have no idea why that seemed so foreign to me. I assumed you would work your butt off to get that ONE perfect take and then be done with it.

LOL, yup. Let's be real..they'll never hear Take 2 on a self-audition. If we can get their attention past the slate. we're lucky if they listen to 10 secs..that's all they need to know if you're in or out..
