WoVO has just come out with a public statement on P2Ps. You can read it here:
http://www.world-voices.org/
Go to the site. Scroll down a little. Click on the big "CLICK HERE TO READ". _________________ * * * * * * * * * *

Both Karyn and I serve on the board of World Voices. Some of you know this, some of you don't... but I'm guessing that most of you don't care one way or the other
However, most of you are aware of the recent events surrounding the policies of Voices.com and the interview with David Ciccarelli conducted by Graeme Spicer of Edge Studios. Like it or not, this issue of them taking a significant portion of the client's budget for "managed services" seems to be coming to a head with people across the industry now paying more attention. The statement linked above is a call for transparency, and is in direct response to our members calling for WoVO to make a clear statement regarding this issue. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Thanks, Bish, for the further explanation.
I have not had any tea this morning. It seriously affects my ability to be eloquent. _________________ * * * * * * * * * *

Full of holes, poorly written and so doesn't read particularly well. Never a great idea to transcribe the conversation between the metaphorical 5 guys in a pub.
Sadly the only people likely to read this are the victims so they will not see how badly the Statement presents the victims. A Public Statement is for the public not simply a statement which could theoretically be read by the public.
Define - "Managed Service"
I know that it is simply the difference between the wholesale price and the retail price. Nothing is managed and there is no service. SAY THAT, be clear.
Managed Service - I get a call from Dave and he says that I have been selected to read a pie recipe for $250. We connect via ISDN or HP Sauce Contact, their studio records, say they're happy and I walk the Collies, 10 days later $250 hits my bank account. EVERY OTHER PRO ORGANISATION SEEMS TO MANAGE IT (no pun intended). Captain Corelli appears to have removed all the work, the ability, the technology, the responsibility and yet insists on keeping the profit. WOVO has declared that it's ok by them as long as Captain Corelli tells everyone that's what he's doing. You don't need him to tell you or anyone else, you know, for certain and it's wrong.
Withdraw document, re-write but insert a spine. You can't get sued for stating verifiable facts. Defamation of character will get you sued, definition not so much. |

Double dipping is unethical and in most business types illegal. I would not be surprised if v.com gets investigated. |

There is only one real question here and that is: does anybody have an account with voices.com anymore?
The failure is ours, not voices.com.
Several years ago I cautioned about P2P's putting their hand in your pocket and stealing your money, here is just the latest attempt as this..
It is your choice but for me, I can manage my money without your help.
Send all P2P's a message about how you are going to stop their money train by not signing up no matter what the fantastic offer.

Talent within our circles have been leaving in droves. What we are trying to do is get the word out wider, and to those who hire thru the site. _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

Stop preaching to the choir. Move your soapbox to a different social media playground.
Play where the predators play and use their tactics against them.
Pay $5.00 on Fiver to pay someone to do an ad about this and share news.
Use Guerilla Marketing to share what is right vs which hand is in your pocket.
But move now!

Only a few decades ago, entities similar to this were very often found to be turning car odometers back before attempting to sell them to the unwary. _________________ Mike

I don't think that's what this statement is doing at all. They are simply trying to get the message and their position clarified for their constituents in the most diplomatic manner possible.
Now, you may not agree that diplomacy in the face of this controversy is warranted, but you have to understand their position. They don't want to go completely on the offensive when some of their members may not feel EXACTLY the same way. I'm sure 90% do, but for those that still want to be members of Voices, it would put them in a difficult position to remain members of WoVo if they totally blasted the company. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

I've just posted my full thoughts on my internationally famous blog. Content reads thus - "I say, you fellows. Bad form!" So as not to be too confrontational it lacks eye contact but does include a friendly face.

It's about picking battles.
You are right... In effect, we do say "do what you like". We cannot effectively challenge the nuts and bolts of anyone's business practice. You can argue that some things are the cost of doing business (e.g. answering a client question)... or that same action is "highly valued consultation from out ninja-grade project managers" and chargeable as such. Challenging the details of the ill-defined and variable managed services is a hiding to nothing and would get bogged down in details. Whichever way you look at it, it is their business... and our focus is on enabling VOs to make educated business decisions.
So, we're not telling anyone how to run their business... just pushing for an environment where people can see what they are paying for and make a business decision based on facts. This information is circulating around the client side as well. Some have picked up the reins on their side and are mighty upset that, unbeknownst to them, their budget was pillaged and such a small percentage reached the VO.
It may be a slow process... and to be honest, if more and more people look at the issue with an "I say, bad form." attitude, then while this is not hordes of lawyers rolling across The Serengeti... it's still progress. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish
