And I am soooo excited, but go ahead and shoot me down if you see any glaring errors....remember that I am aware of the minor grammatical revisions that need to be made on the contact page, and my demo isn't quite ready, so there are no audio files yet.....

Rob,
I won't bash you over the head about the mic image, since you MUST know my feelings about that by now.
The most salient thing about this site is:
Since 1984
Is that what you want? That text has the biggest point size and the most central placement. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The color scheme works for me. Drop the SINCE 1984 line... and put the HOME, DEMO, and CONTACT buttons in the vacated area. _________________ "Bailey"

Thanks for the input....so DB are you saying the mic image is a bit overused in this profession? I hadn't thought about that but it certainly bears consideration....as for the" Since 1984" text, I agree that it may be too prominent. |

I concur on dropping the 1984...that makes you around 40 in my guesstimation and if I'm looking for a 30 something sound I might move on before listening. I'd kill the big mike..it's intimidating, not a pretty mic, and a bit too phallic. I'd also come up with something more evocative of what you sound like instead of "chords that strike a chord". You're either smooth or warm, bright, deep, friendly, intense, trusted, or some combination of words...something that sells us on how you sound would be better than the "chord" thing.
That'll be 75 cents. Please insert the correct change in the slot in the front of your computer and hit "send".

Please tell me you are kidding.
In case you're not, here's the most recent iteration:

Look for DB's VO Website "Rules" near the bottom of page 1.
You also don't for heaven's sake want a tape reel in your graphic display.

A new website IS exciting-- to be sure!
Hardest thing to consider is that the best website IS NOT ABOUT YOU.
It's about how YOU can help SOMEONE ELSE.
How can you help clients get their presentation done well?
How can you help sell this client's product?
Service, excellence.
Then your design is the fun part of making this outreach visually appealing.
Also-- remember that a great many people are using laptops, so you might want to keep that in mind with your layout. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

What about pictures of my Rodes NTK-1 mic and my Mackie Spike audio interface? Or do you think that might turn off producers who are looking for a different or more elaborate studio setup? |

Rob,
Marketing is about creating a vision in your potential clients mind as to what you can offer. Plus, make them feel confident they will receive a professional service. Only use images and words that will promote your services. If you are questioning anything about the perception of how it looks or will be interpreted, do not use it.
Perception is reality.
Dan
p.s. The underlined Demos in your text should be hyperlinked. |

Rob,
STEP AWAY FROM THE MICROPHONE!!!!!
Okay, now that I have your attention...
The website design, look and feel are very good! I really like how it looks and you have obviously put a lot of time and effort into it thus far. However, that being said... when I look at a v/o webiste I'm not so much looking for cool and funky design, I'm looking for DEMOS!
By playing with all of these different microphones, you're really taking away from the reason that people are visiting your website... to hear your demos!... plain and simple. Potential clients don't care if you have pictures of a Rode NTK, A Neumann U87 or an old tire from your grandmother's 1982 Chevy Impala on your site, they care about hearing if your vocal abilities match their production needs! Okay, I may have over simplified that a bit... clients do care about apperance and it is important, however design elements should enhance and highlight the service offerings, not dominate the visual space of the site.
My advice, keep your site clean and simple. Forget about the microphones and focus on profiling your demos and some descriptions of what your style sounds like. KISS (keep it short and simple)!!! Browse through the "memberlist" of this here vo'bb and visit a few of the websites, designs and feel will vary, but it may be a useful excercise.
It's obvious that you have a lot of ability in web design, but you're not trying to promote your design abilities, you're trying to promote your "voice talking" abilities!
Now that I've gone back to take a look at your site, I see that you've already removed it and are obviously working on a re-do... I'm sure that all of the pain and suffering is going to be well worth it!
Can't wait to see the next incarnation!
Cheers,

Actually Brian, I am paying someone to design this website so I can't take credit for the design, although I am certainly giving her my input, I agree with your KISS formula and I am thinking maybe I don't need any microphone pictures or additional graphics at all! |

Rob,
One thing I noted is I get both horizontal and vertical scroll bars when I visit your page. You may want to lay it out so there are no scroll bars. Looks pretty good though. I was talked out of using a mic image on my site too and I like the result, I think it looks pretty good, and no mic! _________________ Joe Rodriguez, Bilingual Voice Actor | The Voiceover Thespian Blog |

Simplicity, he said simply.
That's all a VO web site needs to strive for.

How about?
... and hear for yourself why Rob is truly the voice with imagination.
